MyMedia Rules in Short

MyMedia is a Family Friendly Network

MyMedia does NOT tolerate its members attacking each other, whether it be public or private. There is NO EXCEPTION. This includes swearing, harassment, racism, sexism and religious bashings. In short, discrimination or being prejudice. We are a family friendly network of sites and expect you to respect that. This means no swearing, no bullying, no abuse and NO explicit images are to be posted under any circumstance. Before posting ask yourself: Is this family friendly? Would I allow young children to view or read this? If you're not sure don't post!

MyMedia Rules Summary

  • No Abuse or Flamming - be civil, friendly and helpful towards each other
  • No inappropriate material - everything must be family friendly
  • No spamming or double posting
  • No piracy or illegal talk
  • All user generated content must abide by our rules (see each section for more info)
  • Search before making threads and add them to the correct forum group/game
  • No plagiarism of any content
  • Do not create threads purely to advertise (including about your own site)

Please read below for a more comprehensive set of rules and site FAQ.

General Posting

Everyone may post but please remember there are only two reasons for posting:

  1. To reply to the previous post.
  2. To have your own input to the topic (thread) at hand.

Anything that is relevant to the topic. Use your best judgment and if by doing so you breach the rules, our Admins will happily clean it up and inform you without inflicting punishment.

What is Spam?

The quick definition for Spam is anything that is not useful in any way to the topic. This includes posts that have no relation to the topic, such as posting 'I like Zelda' in a thread where someone is trying to sell Mario Strikers.

This also includes posting very short posts, consisting of single words/phrases, ie "lol", "haha", "I agree", or "wtf?"

Double Posting

Do not double post. Please used the edit button located at the bottom right of your post in the forum, and bottom left on comments, if you wish to add something else and are the last person to post.

Double posting is when you post directly after another post made by yourself. Rather than doing this please use the edit button located in the bottom right hand corner of your post. Double posts will be merged or one removed completely if deemed as spam post incurring a loss of 10 kudos. The only time it is acceptable to double post is when the character limit has been reached.

What is Flaming?

For those unfamiliar with the term flaming, it means 'abuse'. Any form of abuse that can be administered over MyMedia.

MyMedia does NOT tolerate its members attacking one another, whether it be Public or Private. There is NO EXCEPTION. These include such things as Swearing, Harassment, Racism, Sexism, Religious Bashings. In Short, Discrimination or being Prejudice. If you are being attacked or mistreated by any member, do not retaliate. Simply PM an Admin.

If another user is attacking you please forward your complaints directly to an Admin for them to sort out. If you feel you are being miss-treated by an Administrator, then forward your complaint to a MyMedia Team Member.

Punishment

The list is endless and depending on what you do, you may receive anything from a light Warning or an Indefinite Ban. If it is no major hassle, your post will be removed and an Admin will send you a Private Message explaining your breach of the rules. When your posts are deleted, you will have a small fine on your Kudos

Making Threads

Before venturing into making a Thread (discussion) on MyMedia, you should first do one simple thing; go to the search bar in the Top Right hand corner of the forum page and Search in case your topic has already been posted. This helps in case your question was already answered, and if there is already a discussion running on that topic you can just continue on from it. This helps stop our Forums being cluttered with Double Posts. (Remember to keep search phrases simple)

Please don't make threads that are created to house spam, useless information, racist comments, member flaming comments or anything that clashes with the Posting Rules

Adding Threads to Forum Groups / Games

MyMedia has a list of different forum groups that threads should be added to. These include Software, Hardware, Social etc and can all be seen on the forum page. If the topic is related to a specific game then it can also be linked to that game's profile*.

E.G. a thread on GTAIV Help would be linked to the Software forum group and Grand Theft Auto IV game profile. Options to add both of these are presented when you add a discussion, and are as simple as selecting the correct forum group and game from a drop down arrow. If the discussion is not related to one particular game, or it is not in our database please leave the game section as "General" as this will not link it to any game.

Naming Threads

A thread title is very important because it allows the public to see what’s inside without having to click on it. So please do not include the whole question in the title, just a quick summary of it. The best way to do this is to have 2 parts separated by a dash. Your main topic, and the Sub Topic.

EG: If you wanted to make a thread asking people how to help them beat the boss in the last level of Super Mario Galaxy, instead of writing; How do i beat the last boss in the last level of super Mario galaxy?, write something like Super Mario Galaxy - Last Boss Help.

Also, Please do not:

  • Have every letter of the thread in capital letters, or the start of every word in capitals (unless proper nouns)
  • Include The Thread Question in the Title, the title is a quick overview of the topic
  • Include offensive words in the title
  • Use Smiley’s in the title, e.g. =] or :D
  • Use Excessive ? or !, just use 1 of each

What is considered 'illegal'

Talk of piracy, under any circumstances, is not permitted. This includes talk of backing up your already owned products. Talk of burning rented or downloaded products is strictly prohibited. Talk of backing up owned products can lead to talk or piracy and is therefore also prohibited.

MyMedia does NOT Tolerate the promotion and/or glorification of any real world illegal/criminal activity.

Topics Allowed

  • Modchips and their capabilities
  • Places to buy or install Modchips
  • Places to download Homebrew applications

What is NOT allowed to be discussed, asked for or linked to:

  • ISO's (even if homebrew)
  • ROMS
  • Talking about anything you've obtained illegally (i.e. I will download this game)
  • Anywhere to download Movies, illegally
  • File sharing sites
  • Torrents
  • Keygens, Cracks
  • Virus's, Trojans, Backdoors, Keyloggers, Bots, Macros, Script Bot
  • Account Hacking
  • Password Finders

Selling of modified consoles on this website is also not allowed.

These rules apply to any copyrighted work, be it a game or an application or a movie. Penalties include instant Ban

While we allow modchip discussions we suggest that you use Google before posting a thread. Any thread that begins to move towards piracy will be locked/removed immediately. While there are many legal uses for modchips unfortunately due to the overwhelming use for piracy topics such as these need to be monitored very closely.

MyMedia will never be a pirate's resource.

Video Section / Gallery

These sections are fairly similar in the fact that they both require users to add their own content to share with the rest of MyMedia, so they have been grouped. Please do not abuse the privilege of sharing your content with fellow members on MyMedia.

When Posting your items, make sure:

  • It is related to Nintendo (or rival/close companies) or the users relation to gaming, or electronics closely related. post must be Somewhat Nintendo related or related to gaming in some way.
  • It is too include no discrimination or features that are aimed to inflict damage to others. Make sure it follows the rough outline of our interpretation of Flaming

PM the URL to Admins when:

  • You find an Item that you believe breaches our rules, and our general stance on offensive material.
  • You find a duplicate item that has already been posted and has been re-posted. Also if it's a video and has been removed from YouTube and is no longer available

Please note:

  • Off topic videos will be allowed as long as it has at least a minor relation to videogames, electronics, technology in general or the user itself and/or a part of MyMedia.
  • Make sure it has a summary/description as well (YouTube auto-generate the default one from the video page).
  • (Images Only) Please keep the images above a decent pixel size otherwise it will be deleted.
  • Only images related directly to gaming or MyMedia are permitted to be uploaded. This excludes images of random women holding a gaming console. They have nothing to do with gaming. Social images are also no longer permitted. If you wish to upload an image, please use an external image uploading site.
  • MyMedia does NOT tolerate explicit images in our gallery or posted anywhere on our sites. You'll be instantly banned for posting adult images anywhere on the site.
  • Fail and related images (such as lolcats) are funny but not permitted to be posted in our gallery. If you wish to easily post them in discussions you may like to consider joining PWNAGE and make use of the image uploader.

Copyright & Images

Please ensure you post the source of your image if it has been taken from another site. Most of the time it is fine to post them (but occasionally we will have to remove images due to copyright issues), however, please post the source link so the creator doesn't feel like they've had their work stolen!

Review Section Rules

User Reviews

Reviews are where users give their own written input on games or accessories. This is not a section to post a few lines on an opinion, this is a lengthy written review going in-depth on a game/accessory.

Review Requirements (anything short will be deleted):

  • Does not include any of MyMedia's Interpretation of Abusive Content
  • Make Sure it is at least 250 words long or anywhere near that.
  • Make sure the Review has something to do with the game.
  • Do NOT Plagerise your Reviews. This results in an instant Ban for a minimum of 24 hours. MyMedia does not tolerate this behaviour.
  • You are REVIEWING the game, you are not DESCRIBING it. Listing Characters and Tracks of Mario Kart Wii is not a review.

User reviews will appear on the homepage and in Best User Reviews ranked according to votes. The more votes a review has the higher it will appear.

Featured Reviews

Features Reviews are published by MyMedia's editorial staff. Each review will rate the game on its gameplay, graphics, sound, value for money and an overall score out of 10 (not an average).

Articles

Articles / Guides / Walkthroughs

These are the parts of the site that no user has access to adding content. Only MyMedia Staff and Administrators can add content to stop clutter and useless information. The Articles or Guides section will contain professionally written articles including Previews, Retrospectives and other features. It also includes guides on how to set up hardware for example added by site administrators. If you would like to see something you like added there, be it a guide, or walkthrough, then please PM an Admin. And remember posting in these sections via the comments you still agree to our stance on general Posting.

Blogs

At MyMedia we use the blogs section a little differently to what you may imagine. As the network consists of a number of different sites the blogs section is used to post articles that will appear across every site, rather than just the one it is submitted on. While occasionally they'll be based on a general rant in the style of a traditional blog generally they will be focused on a gaming, or entertainment media issue. A majority of these are written by the MyMedia staff, so for this reason only they, along with site admins, are able to add them.

News Section Rules

MyMedia has a Zero Tolerance policy towards plagiarism you must rewrite all 3rd party articles that you submit to our news section. If you do not do so the news will be removed immediately and you will face a 24hr ban if you repeat the offence. Go here for more information on our policy, and for some helpful tips check out the News submission guide.

News can be a lot of different things, Release Dates, a new game, prices, developments etc. It could also be other things like Trailers, New Images released, or even behind the scenes info from a credible source. Don't be afraid, News can be Direct info or Indirect info.

Quick News FAQ

What isn't news?

  • Unsubstantiated rumours
  • Personal opinions on development.

When is it okay to post a rumour?

  • When you've heard it somewhere that ISN'T a forum.
  • When several major news sites have posted the news as well (ie IGN, PALGN, Joystiq and so on)
  • When several of these major news sites all agree on the same thing.
  • When you go to make your post, mention at least two sources that can agree on the story.
  • When it isn't based on box arts, forum info and insider leaks

Sources? and why do I need to mention them?

Sources are where you originally heard the news, and it's there for a few different reasons. First and foremost, to give credit to the people who broke the story. Secondly, if people want to find out more information, it's really easy to get to the original news article. Thirdly, if on the off chance there is a problem with the news article, be it incorrect, out of date or just plain rubbish, it helps editors track down the origin of the news in case a correction or update is required.

When looking at sources, the site you have read the story on may have sourced it from somewhere else in turn. If possible try and track it back to the original source, this way you can verify that the story has remained true and correct until you read it, and will also alert you to any updates to the story since its original posting that other sites may have missed.

Why was my news deleted?

If your news was deleted by an administrator you should have received a messaged stating why. However, if it was deleted by a staff member you may or may not have received this message as they expect you to be aware of the news rules before submitting an article.

If you find your news article was deleted it may have been for one of the following reasons.

  • It was copy & pasted from another site & removed in accordance with our zero tolerance to plagiarism policy.
  • It had already been posted - ensure you check before posting news
  • You broke an Australian Embargo - Unfortunately there's not much you can do about this one. You'll mostly likely source your news from an international site; however, Australia sometimes has an embargo on news and is not allowed to post at the same time as the US.
  • Poor quality - our editorial team tries to quality check all news, but due to limited personnel we don't have time to fix up every article. If it's been thrown together in a couple of seconds, is hard to read, and doesn't make sense it will be deleted rather than edited.
  • It wasn't news - check above for what counts as news.

News - Tips for a good Article

  • Always re-read what you have written before posting.
  • Stay on track in your story. Finish dealing with one topic before moving onto the next.
  • Don't use smiley faces in your news for ANY reason. That's what comments are for.
  • Don't credit yourself in the actual news text, ie "Brought to you by...". This is written underneath the news post.
  • Don't use slang, (e.g. 1337, pwn, MGS4, MP3, SSBB), this includes abbreviations
  • You MUST rewrite 3rd party articles, and MUST still mention your source. Copy & Pasting news is not tolerated on the MyMedia Network, everything has to be your own work. However, you CANNOT change quotes. If someone has gone on record saying 'Mega-Zoid will be the best game ever, it's so much better than all the calamari fighting games out there' then you have to leave that untouched and cannot reword it.
  • A quote must come from someone in the gaming industry and should not be 100% of the content of your article. You should use the quote to back up the point of the news. You CANNOT quote another site's entire article this is still plagiarism. If you wish to quote an entire article please post it in the forum.
  • Do not write in First Person
  • Do not share your personal opinion in the news, that's what comments are for.

A bad example of a news article is:
"Super Awesome Robots, Cookie Party and Mega-zoid have all been delayed till 2007 and 2008"

A Better way to write that is:
"Super Awesome Robots, the game where you fight as a Robot has been delayed till 2007. This news also comes along side Cookie Party, the virtual bake off game where you bake cookies for girl scout fund raisers, which has been delayed till early 2008. Last off all we have Mega-Zoid, Konamitendo's brand new anime based game, which was due out next month, but has been also delayed till 2008 due to production problems."

MyMedia Kudos System

Kudos are how we manage how much you contribute to this site. But some people want to get kudos to look like they are cool, when really, they haven't done anything but make a whole lot of useless posts to gain kudos. Kudos is like a post count, and this does not work because Admins will delete your 'spam' and you will lose more kudos then. "One step forward and two steps back".

Kudos is a post count, it's not worth money, and cannot be traded for games

Kudos is currently handed out like this:

Action made to earn / lose kudos

Kudos Earned

Each Vote for a game/accessory 1 Kudos
Each Post/Comment 2 Kudos
Each Video Added 5 Kudos
Each Picture Added to Gallery 5 Kudos
Each Review Written 20 Kudos
Each Piece of News Added 25 Kudos
Each Review Recommended by an Admin 50 Kudos
Each post Deleted by an Admin -10 Kudos
Each Review Deleted by an Admin -35 Kudos
Each Piece of News Deleted by an Admin -40 Kudos

Classifieds* - Buy/Sell/Trade

If you wish to buy, sell and trade with other members across MyMedia we suggest that you use our classifieds* section. On sites that support it buy/sell/trade threads in the forum will be demoted. This means they will be grey rather than blue and only appear on the forum page and not the homepage. This is a result of an increasing number sale, trade, swap etc threads and it has been cluttering up the homepage. We don't want to stop you from trading with other members we just don't want to look like the Trading Post.

Please be aware that MyMedia takes no responsibility for any trading, buying or selling that is arranged through our sites. All transitions are private between the members and done so at your own risk.

Other Site Sections & Information

Games

The games section contains a database of the latest games. These can only be added by site administrators, who do so in their own time, so please be patient if a game you are looking for is not there. If you do encounter this feel free to PM an admin and ask for it to be added. It would be extremely helpful if you could write up a brief description of the game in your own words and link them to some images that are not watermarked to ensure it is added quickly. The games section acts as a central hub for content and includes links to to featured reviews and news, as well as user reviews, videos and discussions on the game.

Medals

Medals are are a cool reward for completing task and having a bit of fun. If you are new and wondering what they are, you can check out our guide on medals Here. If you want a full list of medals you can go to the Medals Page. Medals are run on a regular basis by site admin. Keep an eye on the forum for them to pop up!

The MyMedia Podcasts can be accessed from the 'more' tab* or through blogs on sites that are yet to receive the update. "The Voice" can be subscribed to on iTunes and features a selection of the MyMedia Team. Send in a question or user review you would like to have discussed on The Voice to podcast@mymedia.net.au.

iPhone Version of the site*

MyMedia has gone iPhone friendly! Check it out at iphone.mywii.com.au, iphone.myps3.com.au, iphone.my360.com.au or iphone.mybuzz.com.au. We call it an iPhone page but it should work fine on most new mobile phones and other wireless devices such as the DSi.

Cheats*

Every member can add cheats to MyMedia*. Please ensure that you include a title the sums up what the cheat is in a few words e.g. "Infinate Ammo".

Lists*

The lists section of the site allows you to add a list of anything as long as it fits in with all the site rules. These can be anything from listing your top 10 favourite games of all time to what you most enjoy about white shoes. We suggest you keep most of them on the topic of gaming, however, the occasional off topic list is acceptable.

The posting rules apply to lists. No form of abuse or flaming of other members will be tolerated. We encourage lists to be fun and light-hearted, but that shouldn't be at the expense of another person.

External URL's & Advertising

You are not allowed to link people in our forums asking them to sign up to another website, especially a rival site. On a lot of our rival sites you will find that the words 'MyMedia' themselves have been blocked. We are more lenient and will allow you more freedom, but do not abuse that.

Remember that linking to illegal & piracy based sites will result in a 24 hour ban.

MyMedia is family friendly and expects you to respect that. We will NOT tolerate linking to or posting any explicit images. This will result in a 24hr or permanent ban depending on the severity.

Coming onto MyMedia purely to advertise a product of yours, which may include asking members to buy it off you, giving them an email etc, your discussion will be instantly deleted, and you will receive a permanent ban from MyMedia. You will be emailed and if you break the rules again you will be IP banned.

Banning and Warning

Every user that breaks our code of conduct at any point will be informed one way or another, be it a sentence or banning your network from accessing the site.

Warnings

A warning is an Admin notifying a member of their breach of the rules. If you break the Rules we have set here at MyMedia you will be messaged by an inbox and it will either be sent to your Inbox or your email account you provided when signing upto MyMedia. If you get warned take it as an early sign that you could be on your way to being banned from MyMedia or possibly MyMedia

Banning

Banning a member is when they have breached the Rules of this website too much. You would normally have been warned beforehand, unless what you have done was considerably wrong. After you have been banned, an Admin will e-mail you on the e-mail you provided when signing up to the site. This will tell you how long you are banned for whether it be 24 hours or a week or forever.

Please Note: Making multiple accounts will result in a 24hr ban, if you are already banned and make a duplicate account you will be IP banned (see below).

IP Banning

If you are banned, and make another account before your ban time is up, Admins can track it. And when this happens, will organise you to be IP Banned, meaning that you cannot make another account from that modems IP again. This is as far as banning someone on MyMedia.com.au goes.

For more detailed information on this please check out the MyMedia Terms and Conditions

If you ever come into contact with people, or places that breach the Rules of MyMedia, then the smartest thing to do is not to take it into your own hands, but to simply go and send a PM (Private Message) to an Admin of the site. Below are links to the active Admins Profiles, and links to send them a PM:

Site Admins

These are your general site admin (each is only admin at selected sites, not the entire network). If you have any issues or questions they should be your first port of call. You can send anyone of them a message by clicking the 'message' button below and they'll be more than happy to help you out.

Frequently Asked Questions

Help I can't log-out!

This means you press on the log out button (Located in the 'more' tab or tab or on the site's footer), and log out, yet when you click it or go to another page you seem to be logged into the same account!

This has a simple solution, and it's to do with your 'cookies', you need to delete them for MyDS. Cookies save some parts of the webpage so next time you load it it loads quicker!

For Internet Explorer Users: Go to the menu. Click on the "tools" menu, then press "internet options" at the bottom. Find the second one down, "Browsing History". Press the "Delete" button, and select "Delete Cookies". Now try to log in again!

For Firefox Users: In the menu bar press "tools", then select "Options" at the bottom. Go to the "Privacy" tab, and in the "Cookies" section press "Show Cookies". Find the cookie for MyDS.com.au and delete it! Try to log in again!

Can I Change my username?

A User or Administrator cannot change their own username. If you would like to change your username, then please forward it to MrDS. Please only get it changed if it's a necessity. This is only available to pwnage members.

How do I change my password?

Go to your Edit Profile Page from your Profile. In the second input box down you will find an option for your password. Simply type in your new desired password and press update!

I want to be admin! How do I become one?

A large amount of members at one point or another will want to become an Admin, but don't know exactly what to do. Being an Administrator / Moderator does not just require skill, but good attitude and teamwork. Current Admins will often work together to pick out members they see potential for. The MyMedia Games Network has tens of thousands of members and less than 50 active admin across all 9 sites, so if you are not picked don't stress too much over it there's always opportunities in the future. Traits of an Admin include:

  • Show a strong sense of right and wrong on the site
  • Do not Flame members, or spam on the site
  • Be helpful to the members and help fix problems
  • Be constantly active on the site
  • Inform current Admins of problems on the site
  • Do not ask to be admin, if you are worth it, we will tell you
  • We try to reward members who wish to be admin if they are helpful to members, generally friendly, very active and want to help MyMedia grow.

There is a high amount of background work as an Admin, and most likely work that you will not be credited or noted for, it's a very selfless job. If you are doing the right things, we will notice it and inform MrDS and you will be put on a 1 – 2 week trial where we will watch what you do and how you act, upon making a decision of whether you should continue with your duties.

Can I use html in posts?

No html is not supported for posts on MyMedia. However, you can use BBCode which will allow you to format most things you would be able to do with html in posts. Hover your mouse over the [?] icon, located to the bottom right of the posting box, for help formatting with BBCode.

How does the search bar work?

The search bar is section specific, if you are on the forums page it'll search the forum, if you are on the news page it'll search the news section etc*. The search bar on the homepage will search features and the forum, however, we recommend you search in specific sections for best results.

What are kudos?

Kudos are a sort of post count, but unlike most forums they count your overall contributions. You'll receive a different amount of kudos depending on what you contributed. For example, you'll receive more kudos for adding a review than just a single post. Click here for more information.

How do I get a coloured username?

Having a coloured usermame is a PWNAGE feature. Check out the PWNAGE section for more information.

Help I can't remove games from my profile

Try another Internet browser (we suggest using Firefox). If you do not wish to do so PM a site admin and they will remove them for you.

Why do I have to list my news source and re-write it?

MyMedia has a Zero Tolerance policy towards plagiarism; you must rewrite all 3rd party articles that you submit to our news section. We can get in serious trouble for allowing direct copy & pastes of news (or any content for that matter) be published on our sites. It's illegal to plagiarize copyrighted content on the Internet as it is for school or University assignments.

If you do not wish to re-write the news you can either post it (or an abstract) in the forum with a link to the source, or send a tip to one of our editorial staff (Gaetano or Ben for news).

Can I have a moving avatar or signature?

MyMedia does not support moving avatars (.gif images) or traditional signatures. This is to keep our forum and comments neat, clean and easy to read. The content listed in your location (edited in your profile) will be displayed at the bottom of each post. You may use this as a text-only signature if you wish.

Can we have a real time chat box?

No. These are too hard to moderate and are not needed when we have an active forum. You can use the "I am doing" box to shout out messages or exchange MSN addresses with members (please note: do this at your own risk. MyMedia and its administrators are in no way responsible, or at liberty to act, for anything that happens in messenger conversations).

Why can't I swear in posts?

MyMedia is a family friendly network of sites. We ask that you refrain from swearing in your posts. It is acceptable to post censored words in place of swearing, such as ****, but the full word must be censored. Including any real letters (even just one) is not allowed and will often result in the whole post being deleted.

I have a problem with an admin who do I contact?

Our site administrators are picked carefully, but remember they are human too (and volunteers) who make mistakes. If you have a continuing problem with one of our site admin please contact either Gaetano or if feel it warrants it MrDS from our MyMedia Team.

What are MyMedia's Terms of Service?

You can read our terms of service (terms & conditions) here and find our privacy policy here.
