Well... Sorta. If you download a game you already own it is legal, because you are just backing it up. But if you download a game you haven't bought, it is illegal. The R4 is not illegal itself, but the downloading is. I don't own one, and don't want one. I pay for my games, the developers do need something in return.

And if you do end up downloading games you don't have, you can get massive fines.

Personally, I'm against it. I find it pretty sad that people would do it, games aren't cheap, but, it will cost heaps more when you are caught.

Respect the prices of games and keep it legal.

I just think Selling Roms For profit is illegal, im unsure of that so Feel Free to correct me, And i believe that you can have the rom for 24 hours then delete it if you don't own it?

Anyway, there are more pressing issues then Video Game piracy , if you are more comfortable buying games as opposed to being afraid of being caught and fined, dont get one, Personally i Love my R4.

Respect the prices? In Australia you pay so much for a little bit of plastic with a game on it. The prices for games here are a rip off and thats why people resort to downloading them. Sure the developers need something in return but they're just being greedy.

I'll correct you then. Getting a ROM that you haven't bought legally is illegal. Selling them for profit is even worse, you're wrong about the 24-hour time-period though.

Wikipedia 24 hours claim

Some ROM websites claim it is legal to download and keep a ROM of a game one doesn't own for as long as 24 hours, after which it is one's responsibility to delete it. Even though it is widespread (most likely due to copycat reactions), this claim is completely false, as there has never been such a law.

Still illegal, I wouldn't suggest doing it at all. But it's your choice on what you want to do and you will have to face the consequences if caught.

There is Zero chance of being caught! Nintendo are trying to shut down the sites but there are simply too many so they can't. They are not targeting downloaders.

If you walk into Nintendo head office and go Shiggy I have downloaded 2,000 of your games illegally then walked out they wouldn't give you a fine! There is no chance of being caught whatsoever because there is no one trying to catch you!

ZERO CHANCE, Stop trying to scare him

PS. Azza if publisher would offer reasonable prices to Australian gamers then they would not pirate, seriously where getting so close to the American dollar yet we are still paying 2x what they pay and more. They try to milk are market! why do you think games are region locked!

Besides there is no reason to charge $60-$70 for a DS game

Obviously, your angry. I will say my opinion on things, and you may say yours but by the looks of those exclamation marks, you look annoyed. I'm against pirating games, like I said. The zero chance thing, that's a lie.

Yes, I own an R4 and so do about 100,000 others no way Nintendo will even bother, you have to nip a problem like this in the butt so the best they could do is shut down the sites that others downloads but of course more of those spring up

@ Azza

I am not angry I just get sick of people saying you should pay for games or pirating hurts Nintendo. I would buy all of my games if Nintendo did not region lock their consoles and began to reduce prices down to the $50-$60 price tags they should be I would love to buy games. the average person can't afford $100 a game so instead there are forced into piracy. The companies bring it on themselves!

look, basically the only way you are going to get caught is if they start coming to your house and looking through your hard drive.

not very likely mate.

I am all for supporting the developers, but, as a 15 year-old with low income, I just can't afford my gaming. so yes, I do sometimes turn to piracy. if a game is really great and I believe it is worth it, I will buy it, even if I have finished a pirate copy and never play the real one.

IF IT IS WORTH IT I WILL BUY IT.

No man there is no way to get caught, like insectoid said do you really think they are gonna come to your house and start looking through your hard drive? Have you ever burnt a movie? or downloaded a song?

They cannot catch you, being there is nothing to be caught for you have bought an R4 to use the home brew on it and they have no reason to suspect you are illegally downloading games...

NO TROUBLE!!!! DONT WORRY

1. Chances of Nintendo catching you and bothering to sue you = 0.000000001%

2. Yes, prices for DS games are way too high especially in Australia. There is no way I would pay over $40 even for the best DS games.

3. Get an R4, you won't regret it...

Some places have a package deal which includes an SD card otherwise it's sold seperately, the rest of the stuff you'll need, Google can find.

Exactly

owning a DVD burner and dvd copying software isn't illegal, it all depends on what you use it for
Much like torrenting programs and peer 2 peer programs, they themselves are not illegal but so many people put up copyrighted software and material its not funny

While most people who happen to download pirated games and software rarely get caught, that's not to say you wont get caught

Thing is with prices, piracy is certainly an issue, so to make up for lost profit, company raise prices but in turn people resort to piracy cause they cant afford, it's a vicious cycle

DS_Newbie said: if i were to get an R4, what else do i need to get?

microSD cards and yes they do sell them in shops but most stores online who sell the R4 offer bundles with the cards anyway plus it works out cheaper as well

Here's a hint for you guys that don't want to pay Aussie prices on DS games

Import

Play-asia.com is the best place to go, plus they have Paypal or even option of deposit into an Australian account i believe.

I imported pokemon pearl and even with shipping (albeit cheapest method) i saved near $20 over the retail
