Overview: Race Monster Trucks around all sorts of environments. Win money for your efforts and upgrade your truck. Gameplay - 4/10 If you are old enough to drive you could only imagine what it would be like to drive a big truck that has wheels that are the size of your current car and gear ratio’s that would not allow you to drive over 60 km/h. It would be a tough vehicle to drive and this is portrayed in this game. I was not sure if the trucks were hard to drive because they were simulating the real thing or if the game is utter crap. I found most of the tracks to be too narrow and twisty. I don’t know if this was the lack of handling even with an upgraded vehicle or the short field of view (see below for details). The steering was unrealistic over jumps as you were able to steer in mid air. The AI players are very competitive and like to give you a bump if you get too close. Unlike most of the racing games these days this one actually starts off hard and gets easier as you upgrade your vehicle as opposed to most racing games that get harder as you go along. There are not as many obstacles on the tracks as I would have liked. Having such a big truck I would have loved to be able to crush things but there was nothing. All other obstacles reacted in the same way regardless if it was a little rock or big tree… it stopped you dead. A big truck would not have even thought twice about crushing a little bush but not in this game, it halt’s you. Local multiplay available. Graphics - 3/10 This is where this game falls over big time. If this was done correctly it would improve this game ten fold. The actual detail of the trucks is good and the backgrounds are nice but the track is terrible. It is a little hard to explain but I will give it ago. The track rolls in like you are constantly driving over a hill so you cannot see that far in front of you. As the trucks are not very responsive you need to start turning before you actually come to a corner. This is very hard to do if you cannot see the corner coming… You see what I mean? The different surfaces are defined well but the course is not always marked out clear enough. Sound - 5/10 With all the cutting of the corners on game play and graphics you would think the music and sound effects would be great? Wrong. The music is poorly synthesized and repetitive. The crashing sound is the same whether you hit another vehicle or a bush. The only variation to the crash is if you have a roll over. Conclusion - 4/10 There are a lot of other racing games out there, play them instead.
