Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright Review - 9/10
Brief information
Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright was originally a GBA game released in Japan 2001, Known as
Gyakuten Saiban in the japanese name.
After 4 years have past, the game makes an appearance on the DS console. Its devoloped by Capcom, who has created many popular franchises such as Mega Man and Street Fighter. There are currently 5 diffrent Ace Attorney series, but i have only played 1 of the 5, so i am going to review the very 1st series for the game.
Story
The main Character Phoenix Wright star as a defense attorney in the year 2016, who must prove his client’s innocence throughout the game.
Each case there will be a suspect of murdering and it is your job to find out who the real criminal is.
The game will have each of its unique cases to solve, 5 all together. As you progress through the game and each story will be much longer and will be much difficult to solve each cases.
Players must collect evidence, by searching and talking to witnesses to solve mysteries behind the case. Also by solving testimonies in court by finding their contridiction to outburst their lies, to find the truth.
Gameplay
Now there is 2 scenes in the game, one is "outside the court room" to investigate areas and to gather evidence for the court.
The other is "inside the courtroom" which you will have to spot contridictions in witness' testimony to find out the real criminal. And in my opinion i have fairly enjoyed "inside the courtroom" to be spotting testimonies and presenting evidence to freak out the witness.
You will have to do many things inside and outside of the courtroom in order to prove your clients are innocent. Through these events you will uncover the truth, pick out whos the real criminal by gathering evidence and talking to witnesses what they have witnessed.
Outside the courtroom you will have to investigate diffrent area to find hints and evidence, etc
Once you have learned all the necessary information and have retrieved all the evidence needed in the case, the investigation will end and court will begin. But you will have to go through many obstical to reach to the end.
Many of the areas you visit will have something odd there and i had trouble finding them, since if you have missed only a little minor object the story wouldnt continue. So u will have to examine the place really carefully by touching the screen to spot out the odds. Sometimes its an item that just doesn't fit in with the rest of the scenery, sometimes it isn't as obvious and you will need to look everything over very carefully. If you are out of options and have no idea to do next, return to areas you have visited and examine every detail you are capable of looking at. You may just find a vital piece of evidence or a clue that can help you solve the mysteries.
Inside the courtroom you will need to cross examine the witnesses on their testimonies after they finish saying them. Your main objective here is to of course find the mistakes that the witness has said in their testimony and expose their lies. Which is very frustrating, especially when you present the wrong evidence to support your theory and you will be penalized at the attempt to frame the witness. Now these are the parts you will need to have a nice long read and understand whats going on, because it is very tricky to solve but sometimes there will be minor hints by pressing their statement.
After all of those events I have gone through you will definately need patients and a good reading skills or you will completely rage throughout the game, Since you will have to read ALOT to understand what is exactly going on, the game plays a very tricky mindgame on you and at the same time very addicting and fun.
These twisting storylines and mystery solving gameplay have seriously made me confuse many times.
Graphics
I gotta have to be honest with you, Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright WAS made for GBA, which was made in 2001 and they have just made an appearance to the DS in 2005. So comparing the graphics we have now and this game the quality is normal but i have to say it is pretty darn good even for today's standard.
Sounds
The sounds are actually pretty superb especially when you have spot the contridiction in the testimonies you have to read. It gave me a shivver through my spines and i have enjoyed some of the music has been played on this game and made me feel like a real defence attorney. Like in every game there will be a scary, sad, surprising, happy etc many kind of emotions theme and these soundtracks makes you really emotionally happy or sad for the song.
Quick scores
Gameplay 10/10
It had a great storyline and many mindgames to solve each mysteries and it is very creative. So many unimaginable stories.
Controls 7/10
The controls were fairly easy since all you do is touch the option "move" to move where whereever u will need to go.
Graphics 5/10
Since it is an old game, so conparing the game quality we have today it is very standard but very acceptable
Sounds 7/10
Very memorable and it had surely gave my spine a chill to some music, especially when you have worked hard to finally spot the contridictions.
Value 8/10
Worth every penny, it will keep you entertained for a good week like me, with all these unimaginable storylines.
Overall Score 9/10
Even though its an old game it was very fun solving msyteries and makes you feel like an actual defence attorney and a investigator at the same time.
Overall Thoughts
Out of the few Ace Attorney series for DS and my 1st attempt playing the very 1st series, i have gotta say it was amazing!
Its very addicting and fun to solve the mysteries, Everything is mindgames! the storyline is perfect very creative, each case you make a deep progress through the game, the case finally starts to makes sence.
I have enjoyed searching evidence and saying the famous line
"OBJECTION!" through the DS mic was truely awsome.
Although there will be a minor things you will be annoyed at, but once you have figured it out it feels sooooo good and will be proud of youself.
I recommand everyone to try this game out and if that would be your 1st time playing the Ace Attorney series like me, I recommand this game to everyone out there. Since this is the beginning of the series, i also suggest you to play the game by order of the series.
