Electroplankton is an interactive music game that became a hit import around the world when released in Japan in 2005. It received limited release in North America in 2006 and Europe later the same year.

Now Australia looks set to recieve at least part of the game thanks to the DSiWare service.

Scheduled for release on this service in Japan soon, hopefully it will be a simple move to our shores due to a limited amount of text in the original game.

In Electroplankton, different "plankton" perform different tasks which produce or modify music in a set manner. Two "types" of plankton are being released in Japan for 200 nintendo points each, as follows:

* Rec-Rec - 4 plankton called rec-rec each 'eat' (record) 4 seconds of sound through the DS microphone (go crazy and experiment!) as they swim across the screen. They then play the sound they have 'eaten' in a loop, modifying the background music. The left and right shoulder buttons increase and decrease the speed at which the rec-rec swim and as a result the speed of the recorded sound. Up and down changes the beat.

* Lumiloop - 5 plankton called lumiloop are spun using the stylus. They produce a steady tone and a ring of light. Different tones are produce when spun right or left and are loudest at full speed - they spin for about 30 seconds. Each colour has a different pair of tones are in perfect harmonies when played at the same time.

Additonal modes are scheduled for release down the track.

Having played a little of a friend's game, you feel like a right wally making the noises, but are sucked in by the way your random cackles and squarks sound musical when mixed by Electropankton.

These are DSiWare releases to watch out for.
