The engraving has been authorised by Nintendo and Square Enix (the publisher of Final Fantasy) and is a part of the manufacturing process rather than post-purchase. As well the box shows the special edition with the game.
At the end of the day, it is an engraving, different box as well as the Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII.
If we were in Japan and were purchasing a DS lite from new and a fan of Final Fantasy, then why not buy the bundle?
Two years ago in Oz Nintendo Australia were selling the DS Phat (the lite was not yet out) with Mario Karts and on the box there was a sticker stating so. The sticker was added on with the game put in the box. Not a special edition - just a bundle buy.
So for the Japanese it is a value purchase. For us outside of Japan, the bundle will never be released because:
- Final Fantasy is less of a cult
- Except for the US market, each national market is small. For the Oz market they need to redo the power supply (AC adaptor)
I just like my Nintendo DS lite and Final Fantasy - fulfilling my hobby.
In Australia I am sure there will be less than 100 Final Fantasy Nintendo DS lite editions because it needs to be imported and costs more.
I have Final Fantasy VII. Others may purchase the Rings of Fate.
It all comes down to how well disposed we are to our hobbies.
The Rings of Fate console edition comes out on August 23rd in Japan - a bit of a wait.
