October 19, 2007 - SEGA has announced a new, multi-platform title that's destined for the PlayStation 2, 3, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS: SEGA Supersars Tennis. The game, being developed by Sumo Digital Ltd., will bring together characters from some of the company's most "treasured" franchises, including Sonic the Hedgehog.
The game will star more than 15 playable characters, including Sonic, Super Monkey Ball's AiAi, Ulala from Space Channel 5, and Sama De Amigo's Amigo. Each will offer their own unique attributes and superstar tennis skills, literally putting a whole new spin on the game.
Some modes to be on offer include Tournament and Exhibition, allowing players to take part in challenges on courts set in locales ranging from Sonic's home, Green Hill Zone, to Amigo's stable, Carnival Park. A host of SEGA stars will stand cheering from the courtside, while "some pretty unusual couples" battle it out, as players work towards unlocking exciting extras, which SEGA's promised to announce in the future. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions will include online modes as well, while Nintendo's pair will be left lacking.
SEGA Superstars Tennis has the potential to be one of the most fun and accessible sports games ever, SEGA's European Marketing Director. "The fantastic Sumo Digital team has had access to a wealth of SEGA IP and you'll be surprised at the gaming icons that will be making an appearance!
The game's scheduled for release in Spring of 2008 (that'll be Autumn locally). More screenshots are available here.
