With the recent merge between Activision and Vivendi, the obvious target for this new super power, Electronic Arts, have been talking about what their next move is in terms of acquiring new companies to further build their portfolio. While they are always looking to bring talent into the EA fold, Nick Button-Brown, Director of Business Development for EA Partners, has said there will be no hostile take overs.
"[Potential acquisitions are] always possible. My primary aim is to find new IP and work with great developers whether we acquire them or not," Button-Brown said.
Talking about working with independent studios, Button-Brown stated that it's not about trying to bring all the talent under EA's control but rather to work with outside companies to produce content that fills in EA's gaps.
"There're so many opportunities out there. Look at Crytek, they make absolute bleeding-edge first-person shooters and they have been doing this for some time. It's not something that we specialise in," he said.
Speaking specifically about take overs, ""It would have to work for both parties. There are no hostile takeovers, it has to be right. Look at Bizarre being bought by Activision. Bizarre were independent for so many years but then they felt like they wanted a little bit of shelter and it fitted. If we'd have been working with Bizarre, that would have been an interesting deal."
Finally, on the note of Activision Blizzard, Button-Brown said we won't know the results for a while, good or bad, "It's very interesting, I don't think we're going to know exactly how it's going to go until it settles down for six months."
