News \ R18+ Rating discussion for games.

All the censorship ministers from around Australia will meet in the Barossa Valley on Friday to discuss if an R18+ game rating will be allowed in Australia. It seems the ministers want the legislation for this to be past, but the S.A Attorney-General Michael Atkinson has vowed to block it.

For a change to occur in the censorship ratings it needs to be agreed upon by all state censorship ministers and their Attorney-General's. The S.A. Attorney-General is worried about the high impact to children. He states that adult freedom should not be placed ahead of protecting children.

There are many groups that want this rating and of coarse groups that do not. Polls show that a majority of Australians want this rating for varied reasons. Some say that the rating will protect children from the content and others say that gaming is a big past time for numerous adults who should be able to choose the level of the content they play.

Has anyone played Grand Theft Auto, my 11 year old brother plays it and its rated MA+.

I think that any high violence games should be rated R to protect kids, but then again some adults don't even care.

Agreed but there is games like resident evil that will turn R 18+ yet. well I don't kno, this is maybe reffered to older people such as adults ( or REALLY desprete teens ). But if the R 18+ is introduced they maybe an increase in Nudity games (duh). Well if R 18+games is introduced i won't get it, depends if it is resident evil. This may be a positive because then older adults will get games that suit them.

It's about time. I think the reason why the Attorney General doesn't want this 18+ rating for video games isn't to protect kids, but they won't be able to ban games as easily as they can now. Think about it at the moment all the OFLC has to do to ban a game is make some claim that it doesn't meet the requirements of the MA 15+ rating and they can't release it. But with a R 18+ they would have to raise it to R 18+ rather than banning it.

Being over 18 I would really like this rating to be past. It would stop a lot of these highly violent games being dulled down enough to come under the 15+ rating. They would just stay highly violent and come under this higher rating. It would stop children hiring and buying this sort of material.

I have two young children so already deal with higher ratings of games, having an even higher rating would not be any different.
