Gauntlet the classic arcade game was announced for the DS today.
Eidos Interactive will be the publisher of the re-vamped version of this retro dungeon crawling game.

For those too young to remember this game, it will give you a new addiction. Gauntlet is set in a fantasy-themed universe where evil cloaks the world from the high clouds of Ascendia to the depths of the lava-ridden Abyss. You play as an Elf, Warrior, Wizard or Valkyrie using your unique attributes to clear out dungeons. Throughout the journey, the heroes will slash their way through demonic foes and gain up to four power move abilities to aid them in their battle with evil. The game originally featured 4 player action and this has been continued on the DS using DS to DS and Nintendo WI-FI network. Apart from co-op mode the game also includes Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch and Treasure Hoard multiplayer modes.



The DS version has 40 maps spread over 3 realms. The DS headset has been integrated into this game allowing VOIP while playing which brings back the old feel of having 4 players around an arcade machine talking to each other while co-operating.

Gauntlet is due to be released later on in the year.
