Software \ R4 and Save files

Is there any way that you can make a downloaded SAV file work with a game on an R4?
So instead of using the save file created by the game originally, use another that has been created by someone else.
If that makes any sense whatsoever....

Make the name of the downloaded .sav identical to the ROM's name on your R4. If you've got a game called foo.nds, call it foo.sav.
