Racing: Speed Racer / Race Driver: Grid / Create and Race 3 are the best.
Adventure: Zelda and Ninja Gaiden (Pokemon Diamond/Pearl too)
Shoot-em-up: Metroid Prime Hunters, then there are a few others - Dementium, Brothers in Arms etc..

And Advance Wars, Fire Emblem, Worms 2, and ANY of the games in the Final Fantasy series are well AWESOME. All of the above are much better than any lame Mario Bros game.
