Codemasters have officially unveiled Dirt 2 for the Nintendo DS, to be developed by Firebrand - the guys behind the Race Driver series. Dirt 2 is poised to take everything great about Race Driver: Grid to the next level.
The game will be built on an advanced version of the RD: Grid engine, and introduces new game modes, a better course editor and improved muliplayer among other things. Codemasters have confirmed that first 5 cars in the game, with more to be announced in the future. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI, Nissan 350z, Hummer H3, Mitsubishi Evo, and Kincaid Ford F150 have all be confirmed.
Dirt 2 on the Nintendo DS will feature a world tour career, along side both an arcade and challenge mode. Online play will allow up to 4 players to participate in 5 different events. If you don't want to jump onto Nintendo Wi-Fi connection, then single card play is available for up to four players.
The course editor was a highlight of RD: Grid and returns bigger and better than ever in Dirt 2. There's a track editor that runs in full 3D, and allows players to create their own circuit, as well as point-to-point, race tracks. Once you've completed your track, drawn using your stylus, it can be shared wirelessly with other Dirt 2 players.
The console versions of Dirt 2 launch on September 13, it is unclear at this stage if the Nintendo DS version will be released at the same time.
