Publisher legend Square Enix has sent word that The World Ends with You is indeed heading outside Japan, or at least to Europe anyhow, in 2008.
You may already know this game, as it has undergone a name change for localization. Originally known as 'It's a Wonderful World' the game takes place in Tokyo with players taking on the role of Neku under the gun to complete a mission or say hello to the end of his existence.
While the game is at it's core, an action RPG, players will also experience a gritty urban lifestyle in the modern city of Tokyo. Between the colorful and interesting characters, vivid soundtrack and distinct clothing choices, it looks like players will find themselves with some 'Sim' like elements along side the RPG base.
Other features announced are multiplayer gameplay based around mini-games and item trading along with real world chance encounters via data sharing over WiFi akin to Animal Crossing's messages in a bottle.
John Yamamoto, president and chief executive officer of Square Enix Ltd. comments, “Square Enix has traditionally been associated with RPG’s set in fantasy lands, but The World Ends With You is our first ever game to be set in modern times and real-life locations. The use of the Nintendo DS functionality is second to none. We believe gamers of all ages and abilities will be able to enjoy all that The World Ends With You has to offer.”
Look out for The World Ends With You in Europe around March. Currently there is no Australian release date.
