SCI the parent company of Eidos who are the makers of such popular titles as the Tomb Raider series, Hitman series, Conflict series, Lego StarWars and whole lot more games are cutting around 800 jobs. SCI has realized that their quality has slipped below acceptable levels and they are not making enough return to be able to support their current operating structure. The SCI board has decided to cancel 14 projects currently in development as they feel the games are rubbish and will not give the company a good return. They will focus on their money maker titles which are Tomb Raider, Hitman, Championship Manager and Deus Ex. Its good to see that we will not be losing the 15+ Hitman series which has caused recent controversy here in Australia. SCI is going to cut 25% of costs by changing the structure of the business from the top down. It will move its production services from London to Montreal where it is cheaper living. SCI wants this all to happen very quickly so they will try and achieve this by the end of 2008 SCI advised that their current infrastructure is too big and expensive for the current scale of the business and their shareholders are complaining that they are not getting enough return. In a final note, SCI is hoping that it gets taken over by another company. There are whispers that EA may acquire them... but thats another news story.
