A Federal Jury found that Nintendo infringed on a patent held by a tiny Texan company Anascape Ltd. The patent is for a "3D controller with vibration" and Nintendo's GameCube, Wavebird and Classic controllers were ruled to breach this patent. The jury ruled in favor of Anascape Ltd to the tune of 21 million dollars. Microsoft was caught up in this situation in 2006 but they settled out of court for an undisclosed sum. Nintendo is lodging an appeal against the ruling hoping for a reduced penalty. The Wiimote and nunchuck were ruled as not being in breach of this patent.
