News \ Fake R4DS flash cartridges

To people who are interested in DS Homebrew I've been recommending a Slot 1 flash cartridge called the R4DS. Watch what you buy, because fake R4DS units have been found in China and online.

These fake units have near-identical packaging and appearance to a legitimate R4DS. You can tell the two apart by the memory they use: a real R4DS will display a Micro SD logo on its packaging, and uses Micro SD cards. A fake R4DS has no such logo on its packaging, but has small blue stickers on the box and unit to show the amount of internal memory the fake has.

These fake units do not have the compatibility and quality of the real thing. Ask your seller before buying.

be careful of the clone R4DS that say they can support SDHC cards, these clones seem to be the bad ones. Also it's official that there will be no more real r4's made, the site has been taken down and there will be no further firmware updates from them. So if your going to be buying an R4 DS still instead of another card, make sure you go for the ones that don't have SDHC support so you don't end up having trouble.

There are some real R4DS left in the market, but not for to long, there are some still below.

Do NOT get an N5. gbatemp has had some users report that these cards are prone to blowing up the fuse of the NDS console, making it inoperable.

Hells yeah. They are entirely different products. They use different firmware, have poor compatibility and use internal memory. The real R4DS has almost 100% compatibility and uses removable media, so you can fill one card with music and movies and have homebrew on another, and swap between them.

In fact, I said all this in the write-up.
