1: how do you save?
i got up to getting my first partner and i walked into a cave tihngy and got killed instantly from these two guys now i have to start alll over again!

You can only save when you are in the main field, not when you are in a cave or a town or whatever. It's in the menu, right at the bottom on the right. So remember to save before you enter a cave or a town or whatever.

Also, if you are in a cave (etc.) and want to stop playing but don't want to have to wait until you're in the main field to save, you can do a Quick save. It will power down your ds and you can start back at the same spot where you left it the next time you turn the game on!
