It's not really similar but without giving too much away I'll tell you about it.
John Cusack plays an unpopular author who writes horror books. These stories are usually non-fictional and relate to various "haunted" houses, hotels etc. in the area and how "scary" they are. He often gets letters from people saying their hotel is the most haunted and could he write about them for publicity. Anyways one day he gets an Anonymous postcard with the words Don't stay in room 1408 written on it. Naturally he rings up the hotel and finds out that their not giving the room to anyone. He decides to visit the hotel where the hotel manager (Samuel .L. Jackson) tries hium again and again to persuade him out of staying in 1408 telling him that in the hotel's history 56 people have died in the room from various causes ranging from suicide to drowning in their soup, also that no one has ever lasted more than an hour in there. The owner follows up by saying it's an evil ******* room. Eventually the writer gets his way and goes into the room. At first it seems just like any other room, until the radio starts playing all of a sudden. This is just the start of a great movie and by writing this I hope I haven't given much away by writing this because I would highly recommend this movie.
