Software \ WEP key ???

So I have a D-link DI-524 airplus G and I know I have to set up WEP key security to use my DS without the USB adapter, but how the hek do I do that?

I know it's probably just a matter of changing the security setting, but I don't know what a WEP key is (simular to a password?) how do I make one (or are they pre-set) and what will changing the settings mean for all the people n my house using wireless on their laptop with a normal password security setting?

Hope someone has some experience in the area and can help. Thanks.

If someone already is using the wireless connection in the house then dont change it. Just ask them what WEP key they used to connect to the router and it should work fine.

ok, I had to change the security on my router to WEP, so I could play my ds online

a WEP key is a password, which is completely incoherent, (and very long) sting of letters and numbers. (eg. d82n7mf8929tkfjwjk239t9ect).

if you change the security to WEP, anyone who uses the wireless internet in your house will have to delete the connection they have, and set it up again with the new password (usually a very easy thing to do), otherwise it will be unable to connect.

Hope that helps

No no you create the WEP key in the router settings. But remember you said people already connect to the router wirelessly so they have the WEP key already. Get it off them!

well not necessarily, astix's router might have a different security set up. (WPA for example)

Lets not confuse him, let him try one thing and when that fails let him come back and we diagnose the issue, otherwise he will have an overload of information.

We're using a different router security setting at the moment- which is preventing me from connecting my ds to the net without the dumb usb thing...

i'll tell everyone in my house to expect the settings to be changed (to WEP) and tell you all how it goes. thanks! xxx

Yep thats okay, then yeah you are using WPA, which is a stronger security setting. So yeah either use the USB key or discuss the possibility of changing the setting to WEP.

My DS won't connect to my router on WPA. It says it doesn't support it. I reckon WEP is the only way to connect it.

You are correct. The DS only supports WEP unfortunately.

I bloody hate the 40 million digit hex codes on wep. I'll just not bother with online play.

the easiest way is to have a second access point just for you DS. i have a sd only one that i just turn on and off when needed since wep is bad security

Thank god the Wii supports WPA. But still sucks for the DS cause I got to plug in a seperate point.

Well it's all worked out, and was easier than I thought. I just changed the security settings on the router. The Laptops in the house seeemed to adapt to the change rather easily (considering all the probloms we've had setting up the router in the first place haha).

Thanks everyone!

You did change it to WEP didnt you and didnt just turn it off? Did you have to re-enter the WEP key on the Laptops?
