Pish.

Alienware sucks. You're paying for label. About $2000 or more for label, in fact. If you get your local computer store to build a PC with the parts in an Alienware PC, it will cost you much, much less.

Yeah but remember he is talking about a laptop. So Yeah comment still stands, Dont go Alienware. If you do have that much money and your willing to spend it, then buy a Macbook Pro. You will two laptops for the price of one, and the Macbook Pro is the fastest Vista running laptop around.

And the proof: From PC World Magazine:

The reason I wanted Vista is so I'm DX10 ready...ish.

A Mac you all say...I'm aware they can run windows, but uh...can anyone tell me how? I'm a mac noob T_T

I dont think I can dish out 6k. Maybe...3k tops, if I'm lucky.

I'll mainly be using this for Melbourne High School work (hahahahahahahaha) and gaming.
Yeah. Gaming on a mac. It's kinda doable, but not really which is why I wanted windows somehow....though EA is publishing games on Mac now...hmmm.

I'm at their site, looking at a MacBook Pro. I'm impressed. I didn't know they were quite so good; just what I was looking for actually. In fact, I'm very impressed.
Any more details on Mac I should know about?

The Mac uses Bootcamp now which allows you to boot into Windows Natively. So there is no emulation done, you are running Windows as a Windows PC. You can install games, DX10, Whatever and it will run. Its as if you have two Computers in one.

So you can games in Windows and hen boot into Mac and do everything else.

Thanks!
I thought Mac Emulated windows for some reason :S:S

Now to discuss with my parents..

Should I go with a MacBook PRO? I will be using this for several years to come...

Thats What I am running. A Macbook Pro.Got it last year. 17". Beautiful. And yes you can also emulate Windows from within OSX either with Parallels or VMware. But you wont be able to enjoy your games as much. Better off using Bootcamp. If you are thinking of getting one, try and get the biggest hard drive you can as Windows uses a Partition that you define.

Also Keep in mind you will need a copy of windows as well. So if your using Legit software you need to add that on top of the price... or sprinkle some magic dust around of course.

Hey, i just took a look at the Apple site and now I really want to get one! So your saying that all Macbooks can run Vista? I have always wanted a mac and now that i can get a job, i want to consider saving for it. What are some of the best features that you use in a Mac? Thanks
Btw, I was thing of the 13.3" one with 2.2 GHz core duo and 120GB hard drive.

All Mac's can run windows now natively with Bootcamp.

The one your looking at is a Macbook. I love that one. Small but so good. I have a macbook pro. Hmm hardware I like... iSight, Multi touch pad, Bluetooth, 802.11n, Dual Core, 2GB Ram....Love the Magnetic power adapter. But its the OS that I love the best.

Sounds awesome. I want to use this mac for Media, get into PC gaming a bit, school work at times and fun stuff. I don't think i need the Pro but it would be sweet. What are the price differences we are talking here? And don't you use VMware?

Macbooks start at $1599, while Macbook Pro's start at $2899 for a 15" model.

And no I used to use Parallels to boot windows while in OSX but I have since been able to step completely away from windows. The only time I use Bootcamp is if I want to watch TV, and my Digital reciever isnt compatible with Mac. So I boot into Windows and use Media Centre.

Wow, big price jump. Well i won't be needing a Macbook Pro. I'm pretty keen on the $1,899 Macbook.
Specs:
2.2GHz Dual Core 2
1GB Memory
4MB shared L2 cache running at full processor speed(what is that?)
120gb HDD
8x slot-loading SuperDrive
13.3-inch (diagonal) glossy widescreen TFT display with support for millions of colours

Can you watch TV on your Macbook? Also what is better black or white?

Black or White....... Whatever your preference is. I found that certain configs wouldnt allow the black. But yeah its up to you. Just be careful with the Vid card on the standard Macbook and what games it can run. Its not as good as the Pro's card.

As for tv, you can buy a Mac compatible USB TV tuner. I havent done that yet and as such he one I have only runs in Windows. So i have to boot into Windows to watch TV.

But Yes you can watch TV on the Mac. And record etc...

They have better specs than Laptops, but I don't think the video cards in Aus are better than 256mb T_T

OK then thanks. I gotta start saving!
Does anyone know if Kevin Rudd is gonna keep his promise and subsidize the cost of a laptop for every student from years 7-12 still?
Also, how much would I get off with a student discount? My bro is in TAFE and has an apple store on campus.

From what i read, that goes towards the schools, and its up to them if they want to upgrade the school computers, or subsidize individual laptops for students.

If you wanna watch TV, Elgato is the way to go. i have a 1-year free trial on the TV-Guide widget, and it's good. I am thinking of getting it, but i have better priorities believe it or not.
