Hardware \ GBA Expansion pack on R4

I was wondering if the GBA Expansion from the M3 Real pack will work with the R4DS. If so, will it have decreased functionality? Thank you.
P.S. On a completely unrelated matter, does anyone have a recommendation as to what Pokemon game i should buy? There are so many and i dont want to end up paying for a bad game . Thanks.
