Hardware \ Ruined SD card?

I purchased myself a DSTT 1gbSD card bundle about two weeks ago, had no problems until just recently. I did the usual insert SD card into USB sd card reader and put it into my comp, changed some roms and took it out and put it back into my DSTT to get my game on, but it just started up and was what i presume (I tried it for about 15 minutes just incase) to be frozen at the loading menu screen (loading the menu not a game). I took it the sd card out and put it back into my comp and now my comp doesnt 'see' the sd card, the usb 2.0 sd card reader thing pops up when I plug it in, but no sd card is there.
What on earth have I done?!
I dont have any other computers to check with, is it my computer, SD card or DSTT or wwwwwwwhat?

Any ideas would be funtastich... thanks in advance

Hard to say if it is the sd Card or not. When this sort of thing happens to me I usually change USB ports and this fixes things.

Never used a DSTT but if switching ports works I recommend backing it up and re doing the OS (if it has one).

cant say what the problem is exactly, but as a word of caution, the usb readers that come with carts are extremely cheap! it is best to not leave them plugged in long as they tend to overheat... the heat can kill the microsd... a good usb reader can stand a few minutes and say you fill a 4 gig up with 4 gig of stuff in one go... it will feel warm to a little hot when you take it out... a bad one can fry the card in this amount of time...

bottom line is have everything you want to put on the card ready to go, poke it in, put it on, and get it out asap... this will help your card to last... dont leave it plugged in over 5 minutes...

if you pop yours in and it is overly warm/hot after a minute, you have a not so good usb reader... pitch it...

other options are use the SD adapter that comes with nearly all micro sd cards, they are more reliable/less likely to damage...

the usb reader that comes with the 8 gig sandisk i would probably trust, but havent got it yet... it looks sexy too!

If you can't format the card, it's fried. I fried one once while it was in a GBA. My computer cannot view the files inside or format it anymore.

Shaq damn, going by what youve said Iv probably deep fried my card. My reader gets warm in less than 30 seconds, and with all my files shoved into one folder I usually take 5 mins or more putting stuff on and whatnot thinking my SD card could tank it.
thanks for the info/advice, time to get me a new SD and a better reader (and better formatting skills).
