During online play you either visit other peoples towns or you host people. You can chat and explore. If the host will allow it, you can harvest some of their fruit to take back to your own town to plant if you don't have it growing in your town. (each game card has a native fruit)
You can talk to the town locals and if the host will allow it, woo them to come and live at your town.
Some hosts that have well established towns will bury bags of bells (money) in their towns for visitors to dig up.
