When Mystery Detective was first released, I spent many weeks picking it up in stores and returning it to the shelf because I wasn't sure if it might be a little "childish" for my taste. Eventually I gave in and decided to take a risk. So was it worth it? I think so! Mystery Detective sees you playing the role of a young female detective named Mackenzie. Through the course of the game you solve 4 (at times challenging) cases with the help of various characters ranging from a walrus to a shark and weird zombie-like people in between. You need to collect evidence, examine evidence and interrogate characters to solve your cases. You'll also need to use your powers of observation and problem solving skills. While you are working your way though cases, Mackenzie (you) will touch parts of items/characters if she finds the texture interesting (the leather couch in her office for instance...she likes the tickly feeling of her hand lifting off the leather) she will write it automatically in her touch list. (This is why the game is known as "Touch Detective" in some countries) You don't get any reward for filling all 50 slots in the touch list but it's another challenge to fill while you are playing the game. You also have a bonus episode which can be played, where the various characters ask you to help them out with their tasks. This seems like a lot to do in a game but I actually found the game to be a little short. The graphics are just gorgeous and gameplay navigation is very straight forward. Some parts of the game proved a little challenging for me and I was frustrated a couple of times when I got stuck and was unable to go any further in the game. Sometimes it was simply me not being precise enough with the stylus in the areas I wanted Mackenzie to look. Overall I have to say I did enjoy this game. I was mistaken in thinking it was going to be childish and I think it would appeal to any age of gamer who enjoys the adventure style game. I've heard there is a sequel to this game planned. It's it's anything like this one..i'll be buying it for sure.
