Tony Hawks: American Sk8Land




Introduction
In Tony Hawk the aim of the game is to skate around having fun doing tricks and getting money/high scores/goals which take you around the story and eventually till the end!

Story
I would have to say this Tony Hawk game has one of the weakest story lines I have ever seen it really is an embarrassment to the whole series, especially after they took such a giant leap in Tony Hawks: Underground by giving you the choice to pick your own skate company and shoe company and go on tour, and it was the first tony hawk game to use cut scenes.

In Tony Hawk American Sk8land you are a new guy in town and you meet this girl called Mindy who asks to see some of your tricks so you sk8 around doing the odd kickflip and she says wow you rock and gives you $250 and sends you off to sk8 around some more and you earn more money by doing tricks for other people then suddenly you go back to Mindy and Tony Hawk is there and he says man you have some nice tricks, and then he asks to see American Sk8land (old skate park with tonnes of history) and he finds how run down it is and then it is your job to fix it by doing tricks and making money and it all leads on from there.....



Above Mindy is telling you what to do unfortunately the tony hawk people went cheap and there is no voice over just some dodgy sound effects


Gameplay
There is nothing new in this tony hawk to do with gameplay except a couple of things that are a cheap way to try and get a refreshed game feel, and surprisingly it actually worked on me.

Freak Out
When you fall off your board after that 15 awesome grind combo you have the option to tap three bars and if you get them high enough then your skater will Freak Out meaning he will smash his board or destroy things in other nasty ways if you can get him to freak out enough you get to keep some of the points from that awesome combo you bail out off!

Touch Screen/Microphone Abilities
You really have to give credit to Viscarious Visions for this magnificent show of touch screen prowess, firstly you can use the touch screen for making custom graffiti and skate board artwork meaning that you will always be different to anyone else. But you can trigger special tricks on the fly by tapping the touch screen! Last but not least one of the greatest features to come out of the microphone on the DS second only to voice commands in Nintendogs you can enter your own Stack cry, you enter a recording in good news and bad news so that when you crash and burn right down a half pipe you can shout/scream or even swear your heart out make it your own! Being super serious or super silly with a shrill "I think i broke a nail" the touch screen in this game gives ultra customization and the best we've seen in a Tony Hawk game!

Slow Motion
This is where the touch screen play a major part in Slow Motion mode your skater goes into slow motion so you can land the perfect trick it looks great it feels great and is a great addition to the game

Free Skate/Classic Mode
This Tony Hawk story thing isn't for you no need to worry we still have classic mode! where you can skate around like the good old days getting high score, pro score and sick score plus finally finding that secret tape and the E in skate, this add a little to the game for veterans! But who could forget Free Skate come home after a hard day at school/work and what do you do turn on Tony hawk and skate for hours with no record of scores just pure skating bliss




Multiplayer
This is another thing to be amazed by this has been superb just by connecting to Wifi you become part of a gigantic Tony hawk world you can trade boards and other things, you can skate off the Wifi is really something to be proud of and what I think it the best Tony Hawk online service so far!

Sound
The sound is Tony Hawk is the same old beats although in my opinion the tunes aren't quite up to the usual standards and I wasn't totally immersed in the game due to that, I wish that people could recognize the growing community of Flash cart owners and allow us to play our own MP3's or at least offer a 2 way cable option!

Summary
This is a Resurrection of the Tony Hawk franchise and has almost completely restored my faith in their skateboarding prowess I loved this game, and the Cel shaded graphics made it special, but in saying that i still dont believe Tony Hawk was made for a Handheld console!

Its Tony Hawk At Its Best With new Features, Who Can resist shouting Profanities down the microphone. Not I.
