Age of Empires: The Age of Kings Reviews \ Detail

Age of Empires: Age of Kings - 7/10

Age of Empires is once again a hit, it has good solid gameplay and is wonderful at filling in time spaces. It supports 1-4 players wirelessly if they all have the game card as well as being able to host up to 4 players on a single DS using the “Hot Seat” feature. With the choice of five different civilizations there is good variety for a single DS game. In-game you can take control of 65 different units.

Graphics: The graphics are solid for DS however during large fights the top screen can become a bit packed. It generally has a busy environment and has a lot going on for a DS game. It showcases the DS’s graphic capabilities well, but with room for improvement. The graphics score 8/10.

Gameplay: The gameplay is average-good and has simplified the original Age of Kings version on the PC. You can choose from two single player options: Campaign and Empire Map. In the Campaign there are five different difficulties ranging from tutorial where you play as Joan of Arc on her quest to win several battles in the Hundred Years’ War. As mentioned early it has multiplayer options but no Wifi, a disappointment for what is a promising game. It has been simplified in the materials needed, now just needed gold and food to survive. Overall, the gameplay gets a 7.5/10.

Replay Factor: Age of Empires: Age of Kings for DS offers a great array of options on the go with the campaigns players can time and time again test their battle strategies against the computer in different ways. Whether the goal is to slaughter your enemy, or to take back or recover an item, it is a rewarding game after you finish your goals. Replay Factor is excellent scoring 9/10.

Overall: Age of Empires for DS may not be as wonderful as its PC predecessors, however, for gamers everywhere, it is a good choice for those into combat games, or turn based games. Like all Age of Empires games, it has an attraction that draws you towards it in the shops, just like a Zelda game.

Maybe you could mention the music in your next review...? Or more detail into the Game Play section, for people who haven't played the PC game (:

This is my first review. Constructive criticism is fine.
