Youtube
And how to use it
This should hopefully be an informative guide that will help some people that get confused or are unsure of what things to do when it comes to youtube (Will open in a new window) From signing up, to uploading a video, and if it goes well, we will have other things like how to edit your profile.
Signing up
Step 1
First of all if you want to get an account, go to the Youtube main page. And then click on sign up.
Step 2
Then you will be questioned with a page that will ask you for a fair few details.
In here you fill them out like this.
- Account type: This is if you are a musician etc. If not, just keep it as standard
- E-mail: Put your e-mail you use in here. When people comment, you get an E-mail
- Youtube Username: Type the Username you want to have for Youtube
- Password: Type in the password you want
- Confirm Password: Same thing
- Country: The country you live in
- Postcode: If you live in Australia just leave this one
- Gender: Male or Female? Easy
- Date of Birth: When you were born, if it doesn't let you, just lie and change your year
- Verification: Just type the letters/numbers that have appeared in the box
Also remember to untick the box if you don't want any e-mails from youtube about the whole Broadcast yourself
This is an Example of how to fill it in
After you have filled that in press sign up, then you have made an account on youtube
Uploading Videos
Step 1
On the Youtube Homepage find the Upload button and click on it
Step 2
It will give you another thing to fill out
It works like this:
- Title: This is what your video is going to be named
- Description: When people view your video, this will give them a brief idea of it
- Tags: When people search for videos, these key words help them find it
- Video Category: Pretty much just the topic or area it will be placed in
- Broadcast Options: Whether you want it to be public, or private for VIPs
- Date and Map: This is where you can place a date and/or map for it
- Sharing Options: If you want to stop people commenting etc.
For those last few, they are optional, if you want to just leave them it's fine. They are more for the detailed stuff or if you want to say stop people from embedding it on other sites like we do on MyWii.
Here is a visual screen shot to help you if you need it
Step 3
Now it should take you to a page that asks you to browse for the file.
NOTE: Please read the bolded text on the image below.
After you browse for the file and press upload it should look like this, then wait until it reaches 100%
Step 4
Now the Video upload should be complete and show you a screen like this. Now you can either upload another, or go to my videos to check out the final product
Step 5
Now that you are done and have gone to your videos page, your video will look like this
If it does not say live, it means it has not yet finished processing and is not ready or available to watch just yet. Sometimes it can take several ours, other times, several minutes.
Finished Video
When you finally get it going, it will look great, you will tell, i can't fit a whole screen on this page, so i copied the 2 main parts, these are examples of what an average one would look like when you put it on.
Please, i know a lot of people are going to go 'what do you think we are? idiots? anyone can work youtube'.
I have gotten many many PMs from members asking about problems with youtube
If something in here is incorrect, or you think an idea should be added, which i can add, PM Me
(Still more to come)
