Can You FIFA 08? - 8/10

WARM-UP
FIFA & EA are not always the most highly considered words associated in video games especially on a Nintendo system, mainly due to poor effort.
EA are well known for incremental updates in their sports series and FIFA is no exception.
However despite their disastrous attempt on the Wii with FIFA 08, FIFA 08 on DS delivers, taking soccer games back to their roots, making them simple & fun.
I have grown old of most EA sports games as they keep regurgitating the same crap over and over and attempt to charge full price, controls getting overly complicated and mainly just sucking so much.

FIFA 08 (DS), is easy to learn, fun to play, and a great pick up and play game.
Like all sports games it suffers from repetition as you can only play the same game so many time.

CONTROLS
Y - Chip the ball OR slide tackle
B - change players OR pass
A - shoot OR clearance
X - GK run out OR thru-ball (pass)

Left - 2nd defender running
Right - your player running


CRITICISMS
These controls work really well. The only downfall is if you keep repeatedly pressing the one button while the balls in the air in anticipation to ensure you get to it first you may find yourself passing the ball 3-4 times over after you stopped pressing making it slightly annoying.

The downfall in this game is button recognition as it sometimes reacts before you get to the ball and sometimes it doesn't. Don't be surprised to find yourself kicking the ball forward to defenders or out when you didn't mean to.

TOUCH SCREEN
Touch screen isn't overly exhausted with simple free-kicks utilizing it, ability to draw the curve of the kick.
Also used to save in penalties and shoot in penalties.

During the game, you can select attacking and defending tactics to be used, which is a welcomed touch to the series.


WI-FI
The game really shines on WI-FI with the ability to verse anyone in the world. EA keeps your stats and you get a rank in the world in relation to your performance.
5 points for a clean sheet
2 points for completing a game
5 points for a win
2 point per goal.

So even if you suck you will still see yourself climbing the ladder the more you play.
If you dont have access to WI-FI i would reconsider picking this up as soccer games can only last for so long.

The online experience works well with the ability to search for other players with a low disconnect ratio, ensuring that you don't verse bad connections or those who only complete a game if they win.
