Nintendo has announced that the "Wii no Ma" video download service will launch in Japan on May 1 2009. The channel is a join project between Nintendo and media company Dentsu. It aims to provide a range of video content to a variety of demographics.
The channel features a virtual lounge room, that can become home for up to eight Miis. Everything in the room occurs in real time with the aid of the Wii's internal clock. By clicking the TV users are able to access the video content. Videos are listed in "Recommended" or "Newest Additions" menus or found using a search function.
Nintendo will be teaming up with celebrities to create 'special lounge rooms' with custom shows on the TV. A message will be left on your Wii message board when this happens so that they can be access at a later date if you so desire.
Videos can be uploaded to your DSi for portable viewing, and coupons can be uploaded to the handheld for immediate use at retailers (sounds futuristic). Videos will be added over time in the same fashion as the Wii Shopping Channel. While most will be free some will cost you hard earned Nintendo points at the discretion of the publisher.
There is no news on a Western release for the channel at this stage.
