News \ Miles Edgeworth Not Sold in Some Parts of Europe Due to Piracy

The recently released Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth has not made it to some parts of Europe due to increasing piracy concerns.

Hot off the back of Nintendo Australia successfully filing a lawsuit against an R4 distributor, one of Capcom's European distributors, Brizamila, has decided against releasing the game in the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. It claims flash cart piracy is too high to warrant the release, as the costs of distribution will not be met with retail sales.

While they can import, as the DS is region free, it's terrible news for legit customers. While piracy is to blame, the honest gamers are left with little other choice than to follow their corrupt counterparts and illegally download the game.

It's all starting to come together. Now do you see why Nintendo Australia has began tackling piracy so hard seemingly out of nowhere?

insidious said: A simple fix is reducing the price. I remember back when gameboy games were 20 dollars.. Then they started selling em for 50.. now DS games are usually 60+. If they reduced it down to $20 again I am almost cirtain more people will buy the games again. Though it wont for obvious reasons, stop piracy, it will no doubt lower the numbers doing it.

I bought Super Street Fighter II on the SNES for about $149 back when Video Games Headquarters was still around. Micro Machines for $88. Given the value of the dollar back then as opposed to now, I'd say game prices haven't gone up. They have gone way down.

They're encouraging piracy in those regions by not selling the game there.
It won't stop the people already pirating as they probably wouldn't use their own countries versions anyway.

You gotta realise, they have to factor in shipping costs, royalties, publishing costs...they have to guess how many they will sell at their price, hence their "budget". It's not as simple as lowering the price.
