The smell of E3 is in the air, and with that comes speculation of new consoles as the interwebz goes into frenzy about what the gaming year ahead holds in store. Rumours began this time last year about a third version of the Nintendo DS being released in a widescreen model. Nothing eventuated then, but now as E3 is once again just around the corner the very small rumour has been ignited.
An advertisement for Disgaea DS shows the consoles with noticeably larger screens causing speculation that the widescreen version is back on the cards. Nintendo have stated that this is nothing but 'rumour and speculation'. Nippon Ichi the studio behind Disgaea DS have said that the screens were placed on a DS backing to emphasise the platform that the game is available on and was not designed for a widescreen DS.
While Nintendo have said this is speculation they have not come out and denied it completely, until they do so this allows speculation of a remastered DS being revealed at E3 2008.
