If possible try and do a battery swap with someone else who has a DS just to eliminate possible causes.

I happen to have two DS so I was thinking of doing a battery swapt this morning, but when I opened the cover the batteries seem to be very tightly fit in. Is there any trick to take them out or just use a flat screw driver?

I don't think charging it longer will help. I have already left it on the charger for a day. If I take the battery out from the faulty unit it works fine on other DS.
