i guess i carnt really help you about how good the cyclods is because i have never used one before, but the r4 is very easy to download the games you want (obviously providing if you have a usb connector)but the actual game play for the r4 dosent ever lag and it also supports moonshell or other homebrews and it supports action replay cheats

So yes for both I think the R4 personally is all you need but some go for CycloDS I would only use it if I wanted Action Replay but I dont

BTW a 2 gigabyte micro SD which is the R4's limit is enough for about 60 roms! so if you have more than 60 games to have back ups for then you shouldn't need to make back ups if your that rich!
