Social \ nintendo 64DD and its games

Yeah it was a shame this didn't come out, it was Nintendo's attempt at a larger than cartridge media format, and at the time it seemed to have promise, but I guess they had a look at Sega and how their add-ons didn't seem to take off.

Too true, Guyver.

I *would* have bought the DD but I think I'm amongst the minority.
Also, from a manufacturing/coding P.O.V. it isn't a good idea to have two formats to work with; the developers would have mutinied. (Not to mention the extra cost involved.)

Personally, I believe cartridges are far superior to CD's.
- Instant load times, and you can't scratch them. The only reason Sony used CD's in the first place was that they are cheaper to manufacture than cartridges. (And a lot easier to pirate, too...)

Bring back cartridges!!!

My mate had the SNES version where you would play the games of a floppy disk.

i got a mate who had one of those too, would have been one of the easiest game pirating devices around, chuck a game in, blank floppy, hit the button and bam, you now have the game on a floppy, he had hundreds of SNES games on floppy's

The closest Nintendo came to using a storage media other than cartridges(pre-GameCube) was when the rumored CD add-on for the SNES was in the works:

Which later turned into a standalone system we've come to know as the Playstation.
