I am thinking about getting a DS mod card, but I don't know which one to get. Should I get an R4, M3, CycloDS or EDGE card? Also, does anyone know where you put the backup roms-I want to get all my games onto one card so i'm not carrying lots of cartirages.

well...... the edge card is new and ozmodchips.com is out of stock and the edge card seams to be a rip off the cyclods but I'm not saying that it's bad, the cyclods is a great card which will play games without needing to patch them it will also play dpg format videos you can also look at pictures that you put on it and you can listen to your on music, it will do what a normal ds card will do.

The m3ds real seems to be a card of choice for most people because it comes with a free rumble pack and has a lot of features but the rumble pack isn't all that good as it's only compatible with a few games look here en.wikipedia.org/ the m3ds real also comes in another pack which comes with a rumble pack and a gba expantion pack which is pretty handy if you want to play gba games on your m3ds real, but you can buy an expantion pack for gba games for all the other cards as well.

the R4 ds card has hardly any features and no forum support no action reply, but every one is buying one because every one is buying one.

if you need anymore info look on wikipedia.org or google.com

But does anyone know where I can put the roms/backups or find out where? Because I want to buy one, but I'm not sure where to put them and I don't want it to be a waste...

you put the backups/roms onto the microSD card, as you will need one, you can buy bundles from ozmodchips. It'll come with a microSD usb reader which you'll just plug into the pc, transfer files then take out the microSD card, put it into the flashcart of your choice (M3/R4/CycloDS/EDGE) and boot it up

the M3real is garbage, pure garbage... the R4 is actually better than the M3real in my book... and i havnt tried a TT, but seeing as it is made by the R4 peeps, i dont expect much out of it, and do not plan on trying one unless it was gratis from the company for review purposes... but i havnt written my reviews yet on all i tested... just letting you know here... big thing is what you plan to do with it... the edge is an impressive little card... funny how people get stuck on saying clone and rip off when really all are in one way or another... but on it's own, it is a solid card which to me replaces the R4, M3real and the TT... i mean i am ready to trash my M3... it is just so ancient it seems... very slow... the cyclo seems to be the best card going, and the supercard shows promise... supercard/cyclo are to be my next test subjects... and again, as i can, full reviews are in the works...

all cards can play music, movies, become a pda, make phone calls and yadda yadda... real time save is a big bonus for me tho with a million things always going on, i can save, and come right back to where i was anytime... if you want to play GBA, do that on the computer, to me that is best, but yes you can use a slot 2 device as well...

So I was just reading-when you put on the system information onto the card, is there already a folder for games or do I need to have a play around with it. If anyone could tell me that would be SO much help, as I am fairly n00by at this stuff and have absolutely no idea.
P.S. I'm gonna get either a Cyclods or a Edge card, depending on the advantages between each.

SuperCard SD one tops all of the cards. All of the above cards have great features but not one of them has them all in the one card like this one.

All cards "roughly" do the same thing and are all good for homebrew/roms. Simplified the R4DS card gets the job done easy however it's limited to 2GB microSD storage cards and doesn't have any "extra" features. Apparently the CycloDS is popular with the "fanboys" since it has rumble/save/replay features which the R4 does not have.

Personally I prefer the R4 however all cards do the same thing so I don't see why everyone is arguing over which is better.

I also think the comparison table on ozmodchips is a little bias but thats just me.

it is that there IS a difference between the cards that matters... yes, they all do work, which is why when i got an M3 Real, i was so excited/happy i wanted to tell everyone to get one... it was my first, and i hadnt tried another card... then i tried an R4, and wow, it was faster, and could hold and swap between 12 skins! the M3 only could utilize 4 skins... and after skinning for it, found that the limited memory for the skins on the card meant if i went wild making a NICE skin, it could not handle it and froze up and crap... not to mention with the skins i did make, being so nice, they slowed down the card massively... R4 didnt have that problem, and could still do everything the M3 did... so i tried an Edge card... and it is even faster, cleaner, uses cycloDS skins, holds 30 skins! and does everything the R4/M3 does, but even cleaner/faster with a great update team to fix any problems since it is new... it handles HC cards, and again is better than anything the R4/M3 team has out... the TT seems to be an R4 replacement that uses HC cards... nothing really new otherwise...

so yes you could buy any card, and am sure you would LOVE it, unless you actually try something better, which is why people, including me, try these things out to let peeps know the ins/outs of each one... if i knew now what i didnt know then, i wouldnt have bothered with either the M3 or the R4, but would have tried the Edge, Cyclo, and the Supercard... y not get the best you can for ur $?

actually the edge, cyclo and supercard have NO limits on size of microSD card... so if you had a gazillion gig one, it would work... 12 gig is the highest made so far... 8 gig is current highest in australia... but they keep getting bigger, and the prices keep dropping... 2 gig isnt really anything for room, and a 4 gig is nice... the lowest i would recommend for anyone is a 4 gig card, but i am an 8 gig man myself... i like the room for everything...

But since 32 gig will be the biggest microSD made, it is a moot point... have you seen the macroSD? 1 and 2 gig the size of a pinhead? bet those would be hard to get in and out of things!

This is not entirely true. As most of these cards run on FAT\FAT32 file system which has a limitation of 32gig. To overcome this, one of the company's will have to change the DLDI for these cards to handle NTFS ot ext3 or similar.

I don't really mind how big of a card it can hold. I have a 1gig and it looks like it can easily hold plenty.
I've decided to go for a cyclods. So to put roms on it, is all you need to to is stick them on the memory card? Or is the some firmware or system stuff you need to put on? Also, does anyone know the website-coz i wanna get skins and stuff.

Micro SD are still "experimenting on 16GB".

Quoted for truth.

@Topic starter summarized 2GB is usually enough which an R4 can do reliably. Plus don't expect to see a 16GB micro sd let alone a 32GB one anytime soon, even if there was one it wouldn't be cheap.

It's going to take you many years of saving to get a 32GB micro SD card when they first come it it would be a shame if you accidentally inhaled it.
