Oh bugger I forgot to give it a rating. I'll add that in later on. It does get a little discouraging when there's no comments ofr a while but what can you do..

Eww... I tried that, I can't stay committed to something that will get like 2-10 hits a year. Plus, I hate all the layout's they give you.

My most popular pages are about making slingshots, ditto machines, web programming and how to prevent sweating after a shower.

Though it is possible to make a pretty site without going crazy with colours and pictures. My site's basic template uses black, white and three shades of brown. It uses four pictures, one of them being the background (which is one of those browns). It was built to load in under a second over a 56k line, and it does.

It used to also have two shades of blue, but I found it unnecessary.

It reminds me of old books, which suits the overall theme of the site as a bonus.

I only use pictures when they are relevant. The general mass of news articles don't need them, and not having pictures will make the site load faster
