Hits mean nothing; uniques are where it's at. A unique user is just that; a single given reader of your site. A unique is only counted once per cycle (usually once a month).

In your case, a hit is when a page of your website is requested from the server. A unique user could rack up tens or hundreds of page hits depending on how many pages he viewed.

To illustrate, my site for January to June has had an average count of 4,800 unique users every month. The page hit count is an average of 24,212 every month.

Every site is built on HTML or a variant of it. HTML is used to define the structure of the site, but it does not necessarily define the look.

I use Strict XHTML and CSS2 (this provides the site's look) with a backend of mySQL and PHP.

Yeah that is true. Who actually writes their own HTML?

Is there any difference between CSS2 and just normal CSS? Oh and I tried using MySQL and PHP but the programs aren't compatible with Vista.

I am learning ASP.net and Visual Basic ATM.

But my website now is just plain HTML and CSS.

I write my own XHTML, CSS, PHP, mySQL. People new to web development try to define the look of their site through HTML, but that approach is clunky compared to using CSS. I use HTML only to set out the structural elements (head, body, div, span, paragraph), give them IDs or Classes depending on what they do, and then apply styles to those IDs and Classes with the CSS stylesheet. The only appearance attribute I still use in HTML is an align="center" in a P tag, for compatibility with early versions of Internet Explorer, which don't like CSS' text-align: center.

CSS2 has more options than CSS.

Testing PHP and mySQL locally is probably a losing proposition, because in the end the server settings of your host determine what you can or can't run anyway. Uploading scripts to the server and testing them from there is painless and works.

Yes, that's what I tried to do when learning PHP and MySQL. I just had to upload them onto my site and see if they worked.

I find writing the code for you more enjoyable than using a program like Dream Weaver or Frontpage.

Thats what I tried making my previous website with. The site looked hideous. Then I found HTML. HTML along with CSS makes a nice neat and readable site.

I have put banners on the side so that you can click and get straight to the newest review/weekly thingamajig.

The only problem is they're too small and not close together, but they still look pretty good.

I also put banners for the VC updates and Wii Ware updates, should I do the same for 'other blogs' and 'upcoming reviews'?

You want help with any banners? As I have a program, called GIMP which is very, very much like PhotoShop. If you need a hand or anything, just ask.
