The Japanese release date for Pokémon Platinum has been set! It will be on sale beginning September 13, 2008 at a suggested retail price of 4,800 yen. We’re proud to be the first English Pokémon news site to present to you the scoop. Subscribe to our RSS feed to be informed of the latest news as soon as they’re posted (in this case, about five minutes after Japan!)

Below is the complete translation of the August Coro Coro issue:

(1) New story! Hunt down Team Galactic (again!)


Interpol arrives!
A new member has joined the Team!
Unlike in D/P, both Dialga and Palkia appear at the same time [atop Spear Pillar]!
(2) Sinnoh now has its own Battle Frontier!

The Battle Frontier arrives in the Fight Area! It’s now a part of the Battle Tower!
Exchange Battle Points (BP) at various new facilities!
(3) New Wi-Fi capabilities!

Each Pokemon Center’s basement level has been expanded and now has new facilities that can support up to 20 players playing at the same time!
Play a new Poffin making game by tossing ingredients into the mouth of a Swalot machine!
(4) New GTS capabilities! Battle Recorder confirmed!

There is a new GTS in Jubilife City! It has new facilities, including a Global Terminal!
New item: Battle Recorder: Record videos of your matches and share them with the world!
Shaymin’s Secret Forme Change Procedures
(This mostly reiterates what we already knew from previous updates)

Receive Shaymin via Wi-Fi to Diamond/Pearl at movie theatres.

(Seed Flare, Aromatherapy, Substitute, Energy Ball


After seeing Shaymin’s impressive moves on-screen, you can now use them in your own battles, too




Move tips:

Seed Flare: Shock waves are generated from the centre of Shaymin’s body, dealing 120 units of damage! It lowers the opponent’s special defense, too! [Note: This is Shaymin's signature move.]



Aromatherapy: Shaymin releases a sweet scent that heals all status problems in the user’s entire Pokemon party!


Substitute: When you have low HP remaining, create a clone of yourself! With this, you can prevent status ailments, too!

Shaymin’s special ability: Natural Cure!
The special ability that Shaymin possesses, known as Natural Cure, restores status conditions like sleep and poison upon end of battle or switching out. A very convenient abillity indeed.





Held Item: Micle Berry

Shaymin comes holding a special berry that cannot be obtained through normal gameplay in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl! This berry, known as Micle Berry, also raises accuracy in a pinch, from 85 up to 100%! Hence, this berry can create a huge turnaround/upset during a battle, and can be very useful!


Caught in a Cherish Ball!

The Cherish Ball cannot be obtained normally via regular gameplay. This Poké Ball produces a dazzling rainbow during a battle entry scene; it is beautiful indeed!




Classic Ribbon!

Shaymin holds a valuable Classic Ribbon. You can verify this by going to Shaymin’s summary menu and looking under the Ribbons tab

Pokémon Platinum is the next major Pokémon adventure, due for release on September 13, 2008 in Japan. (Release dates for other regions have yet to be announced, but chances are they will soon!) It has been confirmed to be an enhanced remake of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl.


the information about Platinum known so far as of June 16, 2008

The Story: Pokémon Diamond centered around Dialga, the ruler of time; Pearl centered around Palkia, the ruler of space. In this installment, Giratina is the star. A mysterious portal has opened atop Sinnoh’s Mt. Coronet, serving as the entrance to the Ruined World, an alternate dimension warping time and space. A story of “epic proportions” unfolds with Sinnoh in center stage



New Outfits: The boy and girl trainers have gotten new outfits in response to Sinnoh’s colder weather, caused by the disturbance. They are sporting new Pokétchs, too. The rival will help out the protagonists as well in this installment.

The Pokémon: While the three starters have remained the same, at least two Pokémon–Giratina and Shaymin–have been given alternative formes, just like Deoxy’s attack, defense, and speed forms from the previous generation.

Giratina’s serpentine Origin Forme (left) represents its true appearance. It is still a Ghost/Dragon type, but is lighter and longer than its regular appearance (now known as Another Forme), suggesting a speed boost.

Shaymin’s Sky Forme (right) changes it from a pure Grass-type legendary to a Grass/Flying type. It is obtained by importing a Land Forme Shaymin from Diamond and Pearl into Platinum. Sky Forme Shaymin will star in the 11th Pokémon movie, Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Sheimi, to air July 19 in Japan.

The pink-haired man is a new character. Is he associated with Team Galactic?
The top right screenshot shows an updated Floarama Town with new colouring.
The bottom left screenshot shows a new machine facility whose purpose is yet unknown.
The bottom right shows a mysterious castle–what is it used for?

Event Pokémon: Japan will receive one promotional Regigigas and one promotional Shaymin, both via movie 11-related events



Lv. 100 Regigigas will be given for ordering advance tickets to the 11th Pokémon movie, Giratina to Sora no Hanataba: Sheimi, set to air July 19 in Japan. This Regigigas can be imported to Platinum to unlock a special event, opening a hidden cave and enabling the player to catch the classic three Regi trio. This Regigigas knows Iron Head and Icy Wind.

The Shaymin will be given in the movie theatres, downloaded to the user’s Diamond/Pearl game via Wi-Fi. it can then be imported to Platinum, where it will change to its grass/flying sky forme

Preorder Bonus: Japan will be getting a 7 cm tall Giratina figurine for preordering the game at participating retailers (Ito Yokado, ToysRUs, 7-Eleven, and others) beginning on July 19. This limited edition figurine was crafted by Kaiyodo, a specialty Japanese company dedicated to manufacturing figurines and garage kits.
