Jump Ultimate Stars - 9/10
Jump Ultimate Stars
Introduction
For those of you who ever played the predecessors, they would find that Jump Ultimate Stars is a refreshing breath of innovation - improving on everything that I wanted in the game, and online play as well.
GAMEPLAY
The gameplay is similar, but there have been a few changes with Support and Assist Komas - all in act of making it a true master piece. It still has the crazy, fun and exciting fighting feel to it, but you can't help but smile when you're really being tested to the best of your ability.
ADDITIONAL NEW GAMEPLAY
The Koma's and Deck Building I found have been tilted a little, but for the good or for the worst is up to you. I personally enjoyed the changes with the Deck Building, having some characters that like the other boosting various stats such as Max HP, Health Regen, etc. With the incredible amount of different characters (over 300) to put into your Deck to fight with, the combinations and possible strategies are almost endless, making every battle you fight online unique and different to the last. WiFi is a big factor of this new fighting game, bringing the first ever Smash-Bros' like experience online to you right from your Console. However, don't think battling on WiFi will be a breeze, I myself have trouble battling it out with Japanese Teenagers during their lunch break.
The character selection which I keep mentioning is AMAZING, from every Major Anime from Naruto to Dr. Grey, there's characters you can use to your advantage, or to your opponents disadvantage.
There is a Mission Mode, where you must battle through J-Space to return balance to the J-Universe, a Training Ground, where you can verse CPU players, and train against still targets, Multiplayer Mode, where you go to verse your friends either locally and use Download Play, or online. There's also a Quiz Mode, which is rather hard to do considering it's all written in Kanji Script (Japanese). Apart from these, there are pretty much the same selections in the Main Menu from the previous game, such as building your deck, spending points on new Koma and game settings.
DS FUNCTIONALITY
Fairly similar gameplay, you start off with a HP bar, and must either K.O. your opponent or knock him off the edge of the stage which can be done with Special Attacks or just comboing with normal abilities. You can bind L and R to summon Support Characters - such as Trunks from Dragonball Z - to either give you various abilities, heal you, or damage nearby enemies. The Touch Screen is something I wouldn't recommend using in combat, because it's too hard to watch what you're doing on the top screen, and tap your support Koma on the bottom screen.
OVERALL
This is a must have for any fans - whether it be a fan of Smash Brothers, or your favourite Anime shows. If you liked the first one you will most certainlylike the second. This game is amazing, almost too addictive. It's a must have for any DS Owner.
