Guitar Hero - On Tour - 5/10

Overview
Just like the many versions before it. Circles come toward you in 5 different colours. Hold the matching coloured button and strum, except this version is on two little screens.

Gameplay - 5/10
I played this for five minutes when I first got it and I did not like it at all so I gave it to my seven year old. It kept him amused for a day or two. After he was finished with it I thought... "I have spent 70 bucks on this thing I may as well give it a go".

I played it on easy until I unlocked all of the easy level. Did not take long and I did not get booed off stage once. Med was just as easy. Hard was crazy. Some of the notes are so close together that because of the unresponsiveness of the touch screen it was near impossible not to miss a note. When things got a bit feisty and rigorous... the slot 2 controller came out of its socket and the game froze!!.

I screwed the PHAT extender slot 2 attachment into place. I found that gave you more leverage and helps keep the controller in place. I pifft the stupid pic stylus and opted for my regular fat stylus and that felt a lot better as well. The touch screen was still not that responsive but at least I did not get cramps in both hands. The constant rubbing/tapping on the touch screen is a sure fire way of ruining your DS.

Just as well there were other ways to activate STAR power because I wasn’t going to be yelling ROCK ON. The game has lefty flip for left handers which flips the screen and the buttons if you want.

Graphics - 7/10
Graphics were pretty good for the DS. Not sure why they pretty up'd the touch pad side of the screen as you are too busy watching the notes come down the fret board. You really cannot see much of what is going on behind the fret board as they had to make this fill most of the screen to help you see the notes.

Sound - 6/10
What.. what Shhhh I can't hear my game. Most of the time I am telling my son to turn his DS down from across a room but not with this game, you can barley hear this while it is embedded to your hand. After digging up my DS earphones and jamming the buds in my ears I was able to finally pick up a beat and hear the notes I was strumming.

The song selection was not really my thing but I was happy that a couple of songs from GH3 appeared in the list. It actually made the game a little more enjoyable.

Conclusion - 5/10
Heart break.. I waited so long for this and it was not worth the wait. The only positive to come out of this is the controller. We have a new control for the DS. The outputs have already been logged and the C code is available. Homebrew coders are already incorporating this control into their games. If you have GH on another platform, don't bother with this.

I like holding a guitar better or the person holding the guitar!
