CrossworDS - 8/10
I'm notorious for taking ages to decide on a game to buy. I'll pick it up and put it back on the shelves for weeks at a time before deciding to buy it. This one was no exception.
I already own another crossword game and while I enjoy them, I had to ask myself..How much different from any other crossword game can this be? The big question of course was how American was it? Is it going to have clues that i'm just not going to know being an Australian?
I have to say I got addicted to it pretty fast. The controls are very easy to master..it's the perfect game for the touch screen. All it comes down to is choosing whether you want to solve the "across" or "down" clue and using the touch screen to write each letter of the answer.
Obviously the clues are Americanized...but not so much that if you don't live there you won't be able to answer. I get SO frustrated by games that require you to know which baseball team won a game by 5 runs in 1968. CrossworDS enabled me to not pull my hair out by keeping things basic. You'll come across American spelling (COLOR instead of COLOUR) and language (Babies sleep in CRIBS and not COTS) but that's about the extent of it.
I've only just finished the easy puzzles in the crosswords section. There were 200 easy puzzles and i've still got Medium, Hard and bonus puzzles to complete!
There are also the added bonus of a wordsearch and anagrams section. For those of you that like this style of puzzle, we are talking definite value for money here folks!
GAMEPLAY - 9/10
As I mentioned above, you get value for money with this game. It's going to keep you busy for hours and hours and the gameplay itself is easy to master. The various games available to you will keep you interested for some time. You are also timed while you try to solve puzzles and are graded on your effort.
GRAPHICS - 7/10
In all fairness, it's a crossword game so there's nothing too spectacular about it but for what it is..it's nice.
SOUND - 7/10
It's your general run of the mill "background" style music that you need to have for puzzle games. I don't know if it's just that I concentrate and block out the music but I don't find it especially annoying.
BAD STUFF?
It could very well be just my stupid way of writing, but at times the word (letter) recognition can be frustrating. It sometimes takes 2 or 3 attempts to get certain letters to come up correctly.
Some of the clues are a bit repetitive...they'll ask the same clue over numerous puzzles. It would have been nice if they'd changed the clues up a little.
OVERALL - 8/10
If you do enjoy completing the odd crossword puzzle then you'll like this game. There are a TON of puzzles to complete so unless you have a photographic memory, it's very unlikely you'll remember the answers so you've got replay value too.
**I will edit this review to add pics and tidy it up a bit**
