New Super Mario Bros. Review!



At the release of New Super Mario Bros., it had been a phenomenal 20 years since Super Mario Bros., the Nintendo Entertainment System’s classic. With Changes Such as Yoshi in Super Mario World, a 3-d environment in Mario 64, a water pack in Mario Sunshine, you think that Nintendo would lose track of the 1980’s classic. New SMB ensures that they don’t… or does it?
When you start the first Level, you realize that it much resembles its 1980’s counterpart. You start to think that the Big N has done what they did one the Gameboy color with Mario Bros. Deluxe, what they did with on the GBA with NES Classics: Super Mario Bros., and would do at the end of 2006 with the Wii’s virtual Console.
Then you find a point in the level where you hit a block, and a strange looking Mushroom comes out. You walk towards it and become as big as the screen, allowing you to breeze through!




Gameplay
The Gameplay, as if you wouldn’t know, is side-scrolling action where jump on the heads of any enemy to remove of them. You hit bricks to get power-ups. A mushroom will give you one hit survival, and without it, you die. Then you get a Fire Flower, which allows you to shoot fireballs. Though this round they’ve added power-ups such as a Koopa (turtle) shell, and the ridiculous-size Mushroom. It also Features new boss-battles against series villains, Like Bowser, Baby Bowser, Petey Pihrana, and more!
Also, a nice bonus is that Nintendo decided to put in Multiplayer (which I have not tried) and Mini-games. To be particular, Excellent Mini games that are probably taken from the Mario Party Drawing board.

Sound
It kills me to say this, but they took away the awesome pixilated music that NES, GBC, GBA, and Wii versions all have.

Story
Bowser didn’t do it this time. It was Baby Bowser who Kidnapped Princess Peach when Mario wasn’t looking. Mario must now try to save his beloved Princess for the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom.

Graphics
I think that New SMB graphics are some of the best on DS. It is the equivalent of a high-end N64, or a low-end GameCube game. It looks really good when compared to games like Contra 4, or Star Wars: revenge of the Sith.



Overall Conclusion:
New Super Mario Bros. is fun for anyone of any age. With many more levels than the 80’s edition, you will be jumping on goombas for a long time. Part of the fun comes from the new freshness of the game when compared to how it would be in the 1980’s. Whether you’re a rookie to the Italian plumber, or if you’re a veteran looking for a change, I would recommend this game.

I’m going to make a statement, and I wouldn’t say anything else.

New Super Mario Bros is, undisputedly, the best game on the Nintendo DS.
