GAME ON at ACMI Preview and Compo

Game On is coming to Melbourne on March 6th! What the heck is it you say? Why, only the history of video gaming packing into The Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Melbourne. Awesome yeah?

So what's on show?

Just about every aspect of the gaming industry, from the latest and greatest in gaming to it's humble beginnings with such classics like Space War (1962), Computer Space (1971) and of course, Pong (1972), arguably the 'break out' game for the industry.

The history of gaming consoles plays a big part in the show, with machines from Atari, Sega, Nintendo, Sony and many others on show. You'll even be able to get hands on with some of the ground breaking machines from gaming history, such as The Brown Box (1968), the first gaming machine to be playable on a home TV. The Atari VCS (later renamed to the Atari 2600) will also be on show, with it's slick wood grained paneling, two joystick controls and games being supplied in cartridge format, the VCS led the boom in the home gaming market.

But heck, it doesn't end there!

You'll also be able to get hands on with a range of games from various gaming families. With 35 playable games, this area is divided into three main parts and follows the classification of games families devised by the Le Diberder brothers in their book L'Univers des Jeux Video. Games featured in this section include adventure games Secret of Monkey Island and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, the racing game Indy 500, and simulation games such as Sim City.

There is so much more to talk about as well, such as the Game Sound Section, dealing with music and sound effects. Then there's the Cinema section, talking exclusively about about games-to-films and films-to-games (surprise surprise, Goldeneye will be appearing), exhibits talking about gaming culture across the globe, multiplayer and MMO gaming, machinma, character design, marketing, future tech..... anyhow you get the idea, there is A LOT on at ACMI from March 6th for every gamer.

I'm sold, where's the best place to jump the fence?!

It's okay, we got you covered. We've got 10 single passes to give away, 2 per console site. You've also got to be able to get to ACMI in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia for this to be worth while for you.

So what do I do to enter?

This is a pretty freaking cool compo, what we didn't mention above is Al Alcom, the creator of Pong, will be in attendance at GAME ON giving a couple of talks on the the worlds first killer app. And we may very well get a chance to speak to the man that started a legacy.

And we want you to ask the creator of Pong a question.

We want you to submit the most profound, interesting, one line question that you can think to be asked to this gaming legend.

The best 10 questions will each win a pass to GAME ON at ACMI, with the best getting the grand prize of being asked!

So what are the rules?

-Entry must be a one sentence question about any aspect of the gaming industry
-Entry must be your own original work
-Entrants must have a Victorian mailing address for receiving the pass
-Only one entry per user per site
-You can only win once, regardless of how many sites you enter on, but you can enter different questions for each site.
-Compo opens Friday 29/02/08
-Compo closes 7PM EST Tuesday 4/03/08

And how do you enter?
