Can anyone help me-I can't connect my ds to my wireless. It says 'The access pooint's security settings are not supported by the Nintendo DS'. Does anyone know how to fix this? My Wii easily connects to it.

I think the DS can only use WEP security, if your router is using WPA the DS wont like it.

You need to change it in your router's settings. Perhaps your parents or something changed it?

It was always like that-it's new and my first one. My parent's know nothing about it-I set it up and need to configure it. Just to let you know it's a netgear...

I had this problem. The DS can only accept WEP 64. I have tried using the WEP 128bit but for some reason my DS wont work with it. Set your settings in your wireless modem to that and it shoud work for you

Edit - I just tried my DS with my modem on a 128bit and it works fine so that part is wrong. But the DS can only do WEP mode

is there a way to get ur DS online through Ad-hoc

also with the nintendo usb connector does it matter if ur router is set to off broadcast...or once u connect and load drivers to PC ur DS will get access to it...

The only ways around the WPA problem is to lower your security in your router, I suggest at least 128 bit encryption as this is the highest the DS can handle. The second option is to get a USB dongle for your PC. This way the wireless signal goes via the dongle and through your PC and onto the net so it does not matter what settings are on your router. The only thing with using the dongle is that you may see two access points when you do a search on your DS and you need to make sure you choose the dongle and not the access point.

How did you fix it coz i cant get on at all. I have the correct SSID and the WEP and still nothing. I have tried to put it all in manually as well and still nothing. I have the router set at 64bit. Laptop picks it up but not the DS.

Rachel, one hopes you've read the other comments.
I think your encryption setting may be higher than the NDS can handle, read Eldudes comment.

I suggest this thread be stickied in case people need help/advice .

Wait, Eldude, are you saying the NDS can run on WPA instead of the crummy WEP?

if you can access www.telstra.com.au/ then woohoo for you, as i think there is a list on there that details the wifi hotspots.

ok man, you should have just made a new thread...
id it a Router or Wifi Dongle??

4 steps to set up your home wireless network: www.microsoft.com/
very helpful if you have a router...

3. Configure your wireless router

Using the network cable that came with your wireless router, you should temporarily connect your computer to one of the open network ports on your wireless router (any port that isn't labeled Internet, WAN, or WLAN). If you need to, turn your computer on. It should automatically connect to your router.

Next, open Internet Explorer and type in the address to configure your router.

You might be prompted for a password. The address and password you use will vary depending on what type of router you have, so refer to the instructions included with your router.

As a quick reference, this table shows the default addresses, usernames, and passwords for some common router manufacturers.

Internet Explorer will show your router's configuration page. Most of the default settings should be fine, but you should configure three things:

1. Your wireless network name, known as the SSID. This name identifies your network. You should choose something unique that none of your neighbors will be using.

2. Wireless encryption (WEP) or Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA), which help protect your wireless network. For most routers, you will provide a passphrase that your router uses to generate several keys. Make sure your passphrase is unique and long (you don't need to memorize it).

3. Your administrative password, which controls your wireless network. Just like any other password, it should not be a word that you can find in the dictionary, and it should be a combination of letters, numbers, and symbols. Be sure you can remember this password, because you'll need it if you ever have to change your router's settings.

The exact steps you follow to configure these settings will vary depending on the type of router you have. After each configuration setting, be sure to click Save Settings, Apply, or OK to save your changes.

Now, you should disconnect the network cable from your computer.

well, that is if u have a router..
