Mario Kart DS - Great game, everybody loves it.
Super Mario 64 DS or New Super Mario Bros - Mario is a great series.
Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 - Good fighting game, he might like it.
Mario and Sonic at The Olympics - Great game full of mini-games, fun.
Pokemon D and P - Great game, very addicting, everybody loves it.
Also, Castelvania, The Simpsons Game, Juiced 2, Advance Wars and Nintendogs.

He could try some good GBA games aswell,
Metroid, Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga, Legacy of Goku II, Pokemon series, Castlevania, and Golden Sun I and II.
