Basically a side scrolling shooter kinda like Contra, weapon upgrades, multiple characters to choose from, big bosses. A typical arcade shooter.

So true and I was pretty young and broke at that time so something that expensive was WAAAAY out of the question. Thank you videogame arcades "pinnies" *a moment silence for the passing of the old videogame arcade*
