Wi-Fi USB Connector Reviews \ Detail

Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector is not user-friendly - 6/10

Note to reader: A copy of this review was originally posted at www.mywii.com.au. The review below is subject to change as it is now considered by me as a draft highlighting the negative aspects of the device. More to come in future revisions!

Firstly, I suggest to anyone who ever considers buying the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector that they do some research on a wireless router if possible/feasible before resorting to using one of these, I wouldn't even recommend a different brand of Wi-Fi Connector.

The software which the Connector uses (it doesn't matter what version - be it 1.01 or 1.04 which is what it's up to at the time I am writing this review) is extremely sensitive and is prone to installing/uninstalling incorrectly if instructions are not followed to the letter! Half of the time symbols in the installation/uninstallation processes is made of unrecognizable characters and shows up as strings of ????????????? ???? ?????????? The software is also only supported by the Windows XP 32bit platform of operating systems. Once the software is installed (be it from the disc which came with the device, or the software which is available for download from the Nintendo of America website: www.nintendo.com/ it is simply a matter of starting a Nintendo DS game which uses the Wi-Fi connectivity, selecting to connect through the USB Connector through the games Wi-Fi menu, and then allowing access to the particular Nintendo DS on the Computer which you've installed the software on.

In Summary I feel that this was intended more for the Nintendo DS rather than the Nintendo Wii as I have had problems using the Connector with both, but have noticed more strange occurrences with the Wii. For example, my Wii's console name no longer shows up correctly in the software installed on my computer, instead there is now a row of squares. While this doesn't seem to affect the devices' functionality it still is annoying, and I imagine it would be even more so if you were to have multiple Wii's sharing the same USB Connector.
