Wario:Master of Disguise review - 9/10
The next installment of the Wario Land series on the DS. Luckily, I went to america and brought it, so I have it way early.
Let's start off with the story: Wario has seen a TV show called the Silver Zephyr. It's about a master theif who stealy all sorts of treasures. Wario wants in, so he builds a device that can teleport him into the show. He lands on the main guy's head, Count Cannoli, and steals a magic, living wand called Goodstyle. He accepts Wario as his new master, and teaches him how to disguise himself. He nicknames himself Purple Wind. (How typical). Later on he is told about the Wishstone, and tablet with the ability to grant wishes. So he rushes off to find it.
Storyline score:10/10
The reason I've given it 10 is because there are alot of twists in the storyline.
Gameplay:W:MOD is like the other Wario Land games, which is pretty much a puzzle game in a platformer's skin. This one allows you to change his disguise by drawing different types of shapes on Wario. Each disguise has their own special power, e.g. Cosmic Wario can shoot lasers, Arty Wario can draw blocks, ect. Unfortunately the whole process of changing disguises is quite annoying, particularly as you get more disguises, as the whole switching between disguises isn't very accurate. You'd draw for one disguise, and it'd do one that's absolutely nothing like that one. Spread through the levels are treasure chests, in which you must succesfully complete a minigame to get whatever is inside. They start off fun, but they can get boring later on. At the end of the levels are the bosses. They often require you to switch disguises quickly in order to defeat them. Bosses are probably the funest part in the game, especially when you get more disguises. Some puzzles in the stages take a long time to figure out, and often get boring if you are stranded on them for too long. And, unfortunately, the game is soley 1-player only.
Gameplay Score:9/10
The only reason it isn't a 10 is because of the inaccuracy of switching disguises, and no multiplayer.
Now onto the graphics. The graphics, for most part, are really detailed and crisp. It has good effects, good looking characters (no, not the attractive type good looking.) I've played through the whole game and I really can't see anything bad with the graphics.
Graphic score:10/10
The sound effects of this game aren't anything special, or new. The music varies. Some tunes, such as the boss music and the last stage, you'll find yourself humming to.
Sound score:8/10
The best part about the controls is that it is so simple, and can be used by people who are left handed like me too. All the moving Wario about is done by the control pad if you are right handed, or the A B X Y buttons if you are left handed. Stylus is used in your preferred hand. All of Wario's attacks and stuff are used with the stylus. If you lose the stylus, you can't play this game. 'Cos unlike some other DS games, you need it. You could learn the controls in about 10 min its that easy.
Control score: 10/10
Overall:9/10
Wario Master of Disguise is a fantastic game, and anyone who enjoys Wario Land games, or platform games in general, should get this game.
