So as many of you know, yesterday we announced our rebranding for the future. We will be moving over to MMGN.com, and while we will still essentially be the same place you all love to come to, there will be quite a few changes.
We understand that for some of you, change is difficult. That is why we've tried to answer as many of the questions you have about MMGN as possible. If you still have questions after reading the below, feel free to ask them in the MMGN Official Discussion threads on each of the forums network wide and we will try our best to answer them accordingly.
Is the name MyFrag effectively being dropped?
- PC.mmgn.com will replace MyFrag.
Are we losing the .com.au domain?
- We will own both MMGN.com.au and MMGN.com. MMGN.com will be used since it is shorter to type, easier to remember and can appeal to everyone around the world. However, MMGN.com.au will redirect you to MMGN.com
Regarding Kudos, mates and medals, will they be merged into the one user profile and will they be separate from the sites where you originally got them from?
- Kudos / mates / medalsf will be merged and we will obtain feedback from everyone to ensure we achieve something everyone is happy with. We have tons of interesting Medal functionality ideas planned. For example, if you upload more than 10 videos, you will be automatically granted a "Video Star" medal, or visit the forums three late nights in a row and you will get a Night Owl medal etc.. We will provide more details as we progress. We are aiming to get the basic stuff done first, like forums, games and reviews etc. Medals and other fun stuff will be done later.
Will all the current discussions/threads be transferred over to the new site?
- Yes, everything will be moved over: no information will be lost. If a section isn't open on the day the site is available it doesn't mean it is lost - it's just a matter of migrating it over the following week or so.
What happens to the badges we have on each site like the MyPSP gangs etc.?
- We are planning to move it all to the profile, and keeping the profile clear to only one badge per user. We still haven't thought much about this yet, but maybe we will involve the users in this when we get to that bridge.
It says all of our profiles on different sites will be merged. Does this mean Kudos will be added up or reset?
- We will be adding up / merging Kudos
Now because the MyMedia Network is central does it mean our PWNAGE payments go down because you don't have to pay for other domains: sub-domains are free!
- Yes. One PWNAGE for the entire network. We will revisit the PWNAGE model after the network is completed, as we want to offer more.
So...what's the new 'technology' you're basing the site on? Hopefully there's no flash because flash is a waste of internet space.
- No flash :) It is asp.net 3.5 (4.0 later) on IIS7. We use XHTML4.5, CSS3, Javascript(JQuery) to construct the pages.
Can wee get signatures one day like the ones on Trophies.org so I can show my trophy's please?
- This is something we are considering for the forums.
How long will the original sites be open for after launch?.
- We will migrate the entire content of each site on the day a channel is launched. All the previous URLs will work, except it will be redirected to the new URL.
So is MyWii's url gonna be like... www.MyWii.MMGN.com.au?
iPhone improvement?
- Yes, and possibility of an APP. That may come after the network migration with a possible June / July time frame.
What happens if we have duplicate medals? If I have the Twitter medal on all sites does it have to be in my profile 9 times?
- You can decide what you would like to do with them.
Will kudos still work roughly the same way (ie. post counts)? Or is it going to be a little more in-depth, or even a complete overhaul?
- Yes, same system will apply. We will revisit it after the migration is completed.
Will there be spoiler tags in the new site?
- This is something that has been discussed for a while. We have added it to the list.
Will there be a separate game exchange forum such as PALGN's?
How much space is there in the new profiles? I think all my profile content across the sites would be too big to fit in the current space of the current profile. (2000 characters)
- The profile section will be huge, consisting of many pages.
What happens to all the member badges I've earned across the sites? I currently have 5 member badges across the network. Can I choose which one I want to have on me? Are they going to change completely? Do they only show in the forums for the site I earned them on or do I keep them all showing on each of my posts?
- You can display one across all sites. We can leave the decision of which one you want to show up to you. We might designe better looking ones so you don't miss out.
If a member is currently perma-banned from a Mymedia site in its current state, does that mean they will be banned right across MMGN when it launches?
Is the site still going to be as awesome and useable as it is now for people who browse the site on the PS3?
- Yes, it will be totally awesome. We will do more PS3 testing when we do the PS3 channel.
Will you fix the text boxes so you can do a line break with PS3 line break command?
- We will do more PS3 testing when we do the PS3 channel. Please keep those suggestions coming!
Will you join together all the profiles/messages from the one the member uses the most? For example, a MyPS3 profile as the main profile because most of my information & games/medals are on this profile.
- The profile again will be customizable. You will be able to choose header backgrounds. You can also determine what you would like to show in your profile.
